Rate / Salary:– $75–$85/hr (or) $120k - 140k/Annum
Experience: 5–10+ years
Interview: In-person interview in Toronto is mandatory
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Canadian university or college

1. Python Backend Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for skilled Python Backend Engineers to build and scale high-performance backend systems. The role will focus on API development, platform engineering, and system design while supporting enterprise-grade, scalable, secure financial platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
  • Build and manage RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
  • Contribute to platform engineering initiatives focused on reliability and scalability.
  • Lead and participate in system design discussions for distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

2. Python - Data Platform Engineer

Role: Data Platform Engineer
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Work Model: Onsite

Job Overview

The primary focus of this role is to design, build, and maintain the EMFI Data Application Platform, a financial analytics application. The successful candidate will work across the full stack to deliver reliable, performant, and secure data products.

Reports To: Director, Data and AI – Embedded Finance

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate business and analytical requirements into well-defined backend features and data products.
  • Design and deploy scalable microservices within the FastAPI ecosystem, establishing clear service boundaries and well-defined API contracts.
  • Design and develop Snowflake-native applications using Snowpark (Python), stored procedures, Tasks, Streams, and Dynamic Tables.
  • Build day-end processing engines that run natively within the Snowflake compute layer.
  • Design and implement RESTful API endpoints using FastAPI, with clearly defined, versioned, and documented API contracts using OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries against Snowflake and PostgreSQL for reporting, aggregation, and analytical use cases.
  • Own end-to-end feature delivery, from requirements gathering and API contract definition through implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Implement platform security best practices, including authentication, authorization/RBAC, input validation, and safe error handling aligned with OWASP Top 10.

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience designing and implementing microservices architectures, including service discovery, inter-service communication, API versioning, distributed tracing, and logging/observability.
  • Proficiency in Python backend development, including FastAPI async patterns and Pydantic-based data validation.
  • Strong SQL and analytical database experience, including optimized queries, aggregations, and data transformations.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake-native development, including:
    • Snowpark
    • Stored Procedures (JavaScript/Python)
    • Tasks
    • Streams
    • Dynamic Tables
  • Strong understanding of REST API design and OpenAPI specifications.
  • Knowledge of authentication and authorization patterns, including JWT, OAuth2, and RBAC.
  • Experience with Docker and Docker Compose.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
  • Strong Git experience, including branching strategies and code review workflows.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of professional full-stack development experience with demonstrated delivery of production-grade web applications.
  • Payments or fintech industry experience is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent workstreams, and deliver with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong professional ethics and integrity.
