Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and manage US payroll operations, with a strong focus on UKG and California payroll compliance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing payroll processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and working with UKG payroll systems in a multi-state environment.

This is an onsite role requiring candidates to be based in Illinois or Wisconsin and available to work onsite 3–4 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee end-to-end US payroll processing and administration.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across multiple states.
  • Utilize UKG for payroll processing, reporting, employee data management, and related payroll activities.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on California payroll and employment compliance requirements.
  • Review payroll calculations, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and adjustments for accuracy.
  • Monitor and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee payroll inquiries.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, Benefits, and other internal teams to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Prepare and maintain payroll reports and documentation.
  • Support payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities, including W-2 processing.
  • Stay current with changes to payroll legislation and California-specific requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in US payroll management or payroll administration.
  • Hands-on experience with UKG payroll systems; UKG Pro experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of California payroll and employment compliance.
  • Experience processing payroll across multiple US states.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state payroll taxes, deductions, and wage/hour requirements.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations, reporting, audits, and year-end processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work onsite 3–4 days per week.
  • Must be based in Illinois or Wisconsin.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting payroll for a mid-size or large organization.
  • Experience with UKG implementations, upgrades, or process improvements.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus.
  • Experience working with HRIS, Benefits, and Finance teams.
