The Role

• Interpret engineering drawings, mark materials, and prepare plate using oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding.
• Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components.
• Fabricate ship items such as seats, ladders, flooring, panels, and watertight doors.
• Form materials using machine tools like rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
• Work as part of a team to produce high-quality steelwork for vital defence projects.

What You'll Need

• A Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds).
• Up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes, including tack welding.
• Confidence and responsibility in operating oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements.
• Experience in working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
