Job Description

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Stockport (Onsite - Nationwide Travel Required)
Salary: Up to £60k (DOE)
We're looking for a hands-on, driven, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support and develop mechanical design, engineering, and product development. This is an opportunity for an ambitious Design Engineer to take ownership of projects from initial concept through to detailed design, fabrication, and installation, while contributing to product development and R&D.
You'll work closely within a multidisciplinary team to turn ideas and technical requirements into practical, engineered solutions. You'll play a key role in developing designs, carrying out site surveys, working directly with clients, and ensuring solutions are ready for manufacture and installation.
About the Role
  • Produce detailed mechanical designs and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Design and develop HVAC systems, ductwork, pipework and associated steelwork.
  • Take projects from initial concept and customer requirements through to detailed design, engineering approval, fabrication, and installation.
  • Work directly with customers to understand their requirements, carry out site surveys and develop practical technical solutions.
  • Work closely with Sales and Projects, supporting the engineering design and project delivery process.
  • Prepare, review and contribute to technical documentation, including FDF and ERS documents.
  • Interpret engineering schematics, technical drawings and associated project documentation.
  • Contribute to product development, research and development (R&D), design improvements and the development of new engineering solutions.
  • Provide practical technical support during fabrication and installation, resolving design issues as they arise.
  • Travel to customer sites to undertake surveys, discuss requirements, and support projects when required.

About You
  • HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or a related discipline, or an equivalent engineering apprenticeship and practical experience.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within a hands-on, project-based engineering environment.
  • Essential experience designing HVAC systems, ductwork, pipework and steelwork.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor, with the ability to produce detailed engineering drawings.
  • Experience taking designs from initial concept through to manufacture, fabrication or installation.
  • Experience carrying out site surveys, gathering technical information and working directly with customers.
  • Confident communicating technical concepts and developing solutions in collaboration with clients and internal teams.
  • Knowledge of engineering schematics and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with FDF and ERS documentation.
  • A strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes, design for manufacture and practical engineering principles.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach, with the motivation to take ownership of projects and see designs through to completion.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites when required.
