Compute Engineer - Selby Jennings

Our client, a leading multi-strategy hedge fund, is looking for a Compute Engineer to help build and scale a world-class on-premises compute platform supporting its investment and research teams. The role focuses on developing fault-tolerant, distributed systems that enable researchers and traders to operate reliably and efficiently around the clock in a highly performance-driven environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience operating large-scale compute environments, preferably within low-latency settings where infrastructure and application performance tuning are critical. Strong Kubernetes expertise is essential, particularly building and managing Kubernetes clusters on bare metal infrastructure, alongside solid Python skills for automation and platform development.

As the Compute Engineer:

• Build fault tolerant, distributed systems that enable the investment and research teams to work reliably and efficiently around the clock.
• Establish software guardrails that enforce standards and enable reproducible compute environments.
• Scale and harden our compute infrastructure to provide a robust and resilient environment for researchers and investment professionals.
• Leverage both open and closed source software solutions.
• Partner with application developers across the firm and enable their success.
• Participate in on-call rotation and maintenance.

Core Requirements:

• 6+ years in large-scale infrastructure environments.
• Expert Kubernetes and bare metal Linux experience.
• Strong low-latency systems and performance tuning background.
• Network optimization and routing expertise.
• Python automation and tooling skills.
• Disaster recovery experience with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
