Job Description

At Mention Me, we pride ourselves on providing end-end acquisition solutions to our customers through our leading AI-powered referral marketing solution.

Backed by Octopus Ventures and Eight Roads, we’ve raised $32 million in funding since 2018. Since 2013, our award-winning acquisition platform has driven over 9 million new customers, generating $3 billion in incremental revenue for our clients.

There’s a good chance you’ve already come across us while online shopping from ASOS, PUMA, Gymshark, Charlotte Tilbury, or any other of the 500+ global brands we work with.

Becoming a Mentioneer means you’ll be joining a driven team, with big plans, at a genuinely exciting time for our business.

Role Overview

Over the past 12 months, the business has been through a significant period of change, including a recent change in senior leadership. That change is still in motion, and building a strong, values-led culture is central to where the business is heading next. This is a real opportunity for the Head of People we’re hiring for, to work closely with leadership, right at the heart of that work.

Reporting directly to a new CEO, you will be operating in a solo capacity, owning the People function end to end, in this standalone People role. Think of this role as being a ‘strategic doer’. You will have the autonomy to own and deliver on the People agenda, with a hands-on, execution focused remit, that encompasses the full employee life cycle. That means being comfortable in the detail day to day - running processes, handling employee relations, managing HR Operations - as well as acting as a commercial partner to the CEO and leaders in the business, providing tactical advice and guidance. You won't be handing off the operational work to a team; you'll be doing it, and using what you see day to day to inform the guidance you give upwards.

If you're energised by the idea of taking full hands-on ownership of the People function for a 50-person tech company, and being a genuine commercial partner to the business, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shaping a high-performing, values-led culture that attracts, develops and retains exceptional people.
  • Leading the employee engagement agenda and using insight and feedback to continually improve the employee experience.
  • Handling employee relations with sound judgement, discretion and fairness, and drawing on strong (UK) employment law knowledge to balance risk against opportunity.
  • Using People data and workforce analytics to identify trends, inform decisions and measure impact.
  • Continually improving People systems, processes and ways of working.
  • Working closely with our Fractional Talent Lead; overseeing talent acquisition strategy and continuing to develop the employer brand.
  • Spending your time across the business, acting as a true business partner.
  • Facilitating the development and upskilling of our people managers.
  • Assessing and evolving existing People processes and policies, keeping what works and improving what doesn't.
  • Managing HR operations across the employee life cycle including employee benefits, payroll (with finance), HR systems/tooling, onboarding and offboarding.

Essential

  • Experience in a senior People/HR role, in a scale-up or tech environment.
  • Comfortable running a People function solo, with no direct reports.
  • Strong commercial instincts - able to act as a tactical and strategic partner to the business, not just a policy owner.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Confident leading employee relations issues - pragmatic, with good judgement, and able to balance empathy with business needs.
  • Confident using People data and workforce analytics to inform decisions.
  • Experience with compensation frameworks, performance management systems, and HR tooling.
  • Able to quickly assess an existing function (processes, policies, systems) and prioritise what to change first.

Desirable

  • Experience in a tech/SaaS business specifically.
  • CIPD qualification.
  • Experience working alongside an outsourced Talent/recruitment partner.

  • Up-to-date tech you’ll need (we love Macs).
