About the Role:
We''re seeking an experienced Design System Technical Architect to support a critical enterprise initiative involving the segmentation of the enterprise design system. This is a highly specialized contract role focused on design system architecture, design tokens, technical governance, and design-to-code alignment.
Working closely with Design Systems, UX, and Engineering teams, you''ll ensure the organization emerges with independent, scalable design systems while preserving the integrity of component architecture, token frameworks, and engineering integrations.
What You''ll Do:
· Lead technical execution of a large-scale enterprise design system segmentation initiative.
· Validate and maintain design token architecture across Figma and engineering implementations.
· Audit component libraries, variables, semantic tokens, and dependency relationships.
· Partner with frontend engineering teams to ensure design-to-code parity throughout migration.
· Map, validate, and resolve component and token dependencies between independent design system libraries.
· Execute migration testing and identify integration issues before release.
· Develop governance documentation, migration standards, and technical implementation guidance.
· Support automation and synchronization workflows between design assets and coded component libraries.
· Collaborate with UX designers, engineers, and product teams to ensure uninterrupted delivery during migration.
· Recommend improvements to design system tooling, workflows, and technical architecture where appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years working with enterprise Design Systems.
- Experience managing large-scale component libraries in Figma.
Deep understanding of:
- Design Tokens
- Semantic Tokens
- Variables
- Component Architecture
- Design System Governance
- Experience working directly with frontend engineers on design-to-code workflows.
- Strong understanding of JSON token structures and token management frameworks.
- Experience with design system synchronization tools or APIs.
- Familiarity with Git-based development workflows and component versioning.
- Experience validating design system implementations across design and engineering environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex dependency and integration issues across multiple platforms.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Tokens Studio.
- Familiarity with Storybook and component documentation systems.
- Experience supporting enterprise migrations or platform separation initiatives.
- Understanding of React component libraries & modern frontend development workflows.
- Experience creating governance models for enterprise design systems.
- Familiarity with Figma APIs, plugin ecosystems, or automation workflows.
- Experience working within large matrixed organizations.
