Job Title: Java Technical Architect – E-Commerce / Retail
Location: Remote
Employment Type: 12+ Months Contract
Rate: $80/Hr - C2C

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java Technical Architect with deep expertise in E-Commerce and Retail platforms to lead the design, development, and modernization of large-scale enterprise applications.

This is a hands-on architecture role requiring strong technical leadership, solution design capabilities, and experience driving cloud-native, scalable, and high-performance systems.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience building microservices-based distributed applications, designing API-first and event-driven architectures, and integrating critical retail systems including OMS, ERP, Inventory Management, Payments, Fulfillment, and Logistics platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Design and architect scalable, resilient, and high-performing enterprise applications using Java and modern cloud technologies.
Lead modernization of monolithic applications into microservices-based architectures.
Define and implement API-first and event-driven architecture patterns.
Architect and integrate solutions across:

Order Management Systems (OMS)
ERP Platforms
Inventory Management Systems
Payment Gateways
Fulfillment & Logistics Systems

Collaborate with business stakeholders, product teams, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
Establish engineering best practices, development standards, and governance frameworks.
Drive cloud-native adoption, CI/CD implementation, and DevSecOps practices.
Troubleshoot complex production issues involving performance, scalability, and system reliability.
Mentor senior developers and engineering teams on architecture, design patterns, and modern engineering practices.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions aligned with business objectives.

Required Qualifications

12+ years of software development experience with at least 5+ years in Architecture or Technical Leadership roles.
Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Microservices Architecture.
Expertise in designing and implementing Distributed Systems.
Strong experience with REST APIs, API Gateways, Event Streaming, and Messaging Platforms.
Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar event-driven technologies.
Solid experience in Retail and E-Commerce ecosystems.
Hands-on experience integrating:

OMS
ERP
Inventory Management Systems
Payment Systems / Payment Gateways
Fulfillment Systems
Logistics / Shipping Systems

Strong experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform).
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
Strong knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
Expertise in application monitoring, observability, performance tuning, and production support.
Experience performing architecture governance, code reviews, and system design reviews.
Strong technical leadership and mentoring experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with major E-Commerce platforms and marketplace ecosystems.
Exposure to Headless Commerce architectures.
Experience with Social Commerce, Digital Commerce, or Omnichannel Retail platforms.
Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD), CQRS, and Event Sourcing.
Familiarity with AI-powered commerce solutions and intelligent recommendation systems.
