Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist
Location: Remote
Full-Time | Mid-Level (12-35 Years Experience)
Are you passionate about software licensing, compliance, and asset optimization? We are seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist to manage the complete software asset lifecycle for a portfolio of software publishers. This role is critical in ensuring compliance, optimizing software investments, and mitigating audit risks.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain Effective License Positions (ELP) by reconciling software entitlements with deployment and consumption data.
Own software compliance activities, including audit readiness, true-up management, and remediation of licensing gaps.
Support internal and external software audits with accurate entitlement and usage evidence.
Utilize ServiceNow SAM Pro for discovery, normalization, reconciliation, and license management.
Drive software optimization initiatives through usage analysis and license reclamation.
Manage software renewals, contract lifecycle activities, procurement workflows, and approval processes.
Evaluate vendor proposals, support negotiations, and manage co-termination strategies.
Deliver accurate reporting on software inventory, compliance status, consumption trends, and renewal risks.
Required Skills
4+ years of Software Asset Management (SAM), ITAM, Licensing, or Software Procurement experience.
Strong expertise in Effective License Position (ELP) creation and analysis.
Hands-on experience with ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera, or Snow License Manager.
Experience managing software compliance programs and audit activities.
Knowledge of software licensing models including Perpetual, Subscription, and SaaS.
Experience with major publishers such as Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, or SAP.
Exposure to procurement tools such as Ariba, Coupa, or ServiceNow Procurement.
Strong Excel, reporting, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
US Person status required.
Preferred Qualifications
ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist SAM
Experience with software audit defense and vendor true-up negotiations.
