Senior Software Engineer
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico (On-site)
Alternate Location: El Segundo, CA, Kent, WA
Role Overview
This is a technical leadership position focused on providing senior-level software expertise, architecture support, and future technical leadership for a long-term program. The role involves driving end-to-end software development, owning software design, implementation, and testing processes to meet program milestones. This leader will also shape organization-wide software architecture strategy for current and future ground solutions.
Key Responsibilities

• Gather and document requirements for software systems.
• Plan and execute software architecture and design activities.
• Support system design activities and provide technical planning assistance.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the program, providing technical guidance to team members.
• Leverage programming and software engineering experience to resolve technical questions and development challenges.
• Oversee the design, development, and analysis of software systems.
• Lead code reviews to ensure alignment with requirements and standards.
• Research and oversee the implementation of current and emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 10+ years of experience in foundational Computer Science knowledge, object-oriented design, and software patterns. Experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems. Proven experience in software architecture, design, and technical leadership.
Technical Skills: Experience with Software Engineering principles including Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management.
Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mission systems.
• Experience with one or more of the following: Java, C++, Python, JS frameworks (REACT, jQuery UI, Open Layers), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI.
• Experience using dependency management and automation services (e.g., Ivy, Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins).
• Experience using cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, and CI/CD management.
• Experience with software for control systems, embedded FPGA, low latency deterministic systems, operator interfaces, control gimbals, ground antennas, or optical sensors.
• Strong mentoring, leadership, and communication skills.

Work Environment
This position is 100% onsite. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with flexible scheduling available. The position may require travel up to 20% of the time.
