Retail Coffee Customer Service & Apprentice Trainer

In addition to 2 vintage roasters, a 1926 Probat UG15 and a 1963 Probat G75, there is also a bean shop at the roastery where this position will be focused at the front of the house. City Bean Roasters seeks a unique coffee talent and human being to assume this new public-facing role. This is a foot-in-the-door position for a skilled barista to begin the transition from behind the machine to roasting company.
Our West Adams wholesale production roastery has a retail shop in front (beans, tea, and merch only; no drinks). This part-time retail shop position (to start) has an apprenticeship attachment in the areas of teaching coffee classes and wholesale account services (no sales).

As a sales associate, you will be the face of City Bean's retail shop where we sell coffee beans direct-to-consumer. You'll be the smiling face each person sees as they walk through the door, and ready to guide them to learn more about City Bean and our products. You will also be responsible for answering phones and addressing inquiries from our wholesale and retail customers or directing calls and messages to the appropriate staff member. You will also be given other side work as needed during your shift to help the roastery keep running smoothly.

You will learn about and drink delicious high quality coffee in an employee-centered environment with a tight-knight passionate team. Hopefully, you can teach us something, too!

Must-haves

• 2+ years of retail coffee experience
• Comprehensive coffee knowledge. You can explain wet process vs. natural process, properly describe what extraction is and know different brew methods such as AeroPress and Chemex
• Advanced or specialized barista skills, including latte art
• Familiarity with point-of-sale systems
• Reliable transportation
• A helpful, friendly, patient attitude

Bonus points

• Experience leading or delivering coffee/espresso training
• Social media savvy
