Job Title: Senior Platform / DevOps Engineer (SUSE Rancher & Kubernetes)

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer / DevOps Engineer with hands-on expertise in SUSE Rancher and enterprise Kubernetes management. In this role, you will lead the design, deployment, automation, and operational management of our multi-cluster Kubernetes platform across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

You will serve as the subject matter expert for SUSE Rancher, driving platform standardization, automated GitOps deployments, security policy enforcement, and developer self-service capability.

Key Responsibilities

1. SUSE Rancher & Kubernetes Management

• Architect, deploy, and manage multi-cluster Kubernetes environments using SUSE Rancher (RKE, RKE2, or K3s) across hybrid/multi-cloud infrastructures (AWS EKS, Azure AKS, Bare-Metal).
• Manage cluster life cycle operations, including node provisioning, automated upgrades, certificate rotations, and disaster recovery/backup procedures.
• Configure centralized authentication (Active Directory, Okta, LDAP) and enforce granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) across all downstream clusters using Rancher.

2. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation

• Automate cloud and edge infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, Ansible, and Rancher API/Cluster API.
• Establish declarative, multi-cluster GitOps deployment workflows using Rancher Fleet, ArgoCD, or Flux.
• Build and maintain standardized Helm charts and application packaging pipelines for developer teams.

3. Security, Compliance & Governance

• Implement zero-trust container security policies using SUSE NeuVector or admission policy controllers (Kyverno, OPA Gatekeeper).
• Apply hardened security configurations based on CIS Benchmarks, NIST, or FedRAMP standards across operating systems and container platforms.
• Integrate vulnerability scanning into build and deployment pipelines (SAST, image scanning, dependency checks).

4. Observability & Operations

• Maintain enterprise monitoring, logging, and alerting stacks using Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, OpenSearch, or ELK integrated with Rancher.
• Optimize persistent storage plugins (Longhorn, Ceph, Cloud CSI drivers) and ingress controllers (NGINX, Traefik, Istio).
• Participate in on-call escalation rotations, conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for production incidents, and maintain system reliability SLA/SLOs.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or SRE roles, with at least 3+ years dedicated to supporting Kubernetes in production environments.
• SUSE Rancher Focus: Proven track record deploying, migrating, and supporting multi-cluster Kubernetes environments using SUSE Rancher.
• Container Runtimes & Orchestration: Strong experience with RKE2, K3s, upstream Kubernetes, containerd, and Docker.
• IaC & Automation: Expertise in Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and GitOps principles.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Solid hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and on-premises environments.
• Networking & Security: Solid foundation in CNI plugins (Calico, Cilium, Flannel), ingress routing, DNS, TLS/SSL certificates, and RBAC.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Certifications (Highly Preferred):
  • SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA) in SUSE Rancher Prime or RKE2.
  • CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist).
  • HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
• Experience with SUSE Harvester (Hyperconverged Infrastructure) for hypervisor/VM workload management alongside containers.
• Experience with service mesh frameworks (Istio or Linkerd).
• Scripting capability in Python, Go, or Bash.
