Job Description

Project Engineer - Telecoms & Systems Integration
Location: London / South East England
Salary: Up to £65,000 + travel allowance

Working pattern: Hybrid - typically 3 days in the office/on site and 2 days working from home
Ready to take the next step in your telecoms career?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer with a background in telecoms, data transmission or IT systems to join a growing project delivery team, supporting major infrastructure and renewable energy projects across London and the South East.

You'll initially focus on project engineering and site delivery, working alongside specialist subcontractors to ensure installations meet the required technical, quality and safety standards. With exposure to complex projects, ongoing training and a genuine long-term development plan, this role offers a pathway into Construction Management and potentially senior Communications Management.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting the delivery of telecoms, communications and integrated security systems across major infrastructure projects.
  • Managing and coordinating subcontractors, ensuring installations are completed to specification and to the required quality standards.
  • Carrying out site inspections, quality assurance checks and installation audits.
  • Supporting installation, testing, commissioning and system integration activities.
  • Working with technologies covering data transmission, fibre optics, access control and security systems.
  • Developing your technical knowledge through hands-on project experience, training and exposure to new technologies.
  • Coordinating with project teams, clients and delivery partners to keep work progressing safely and efficiently.

What experience are we looking for?

  • A background in telecommunications, data transmission, IT infrastructure or electronic systems.
  • A degree or HND in Telecoms, IT or a related discipline, ideally with around five years' relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, substantial hands-on industry experience, typically 10 years or more, supported by an HND or equivalent technical background.
  • Experience of working with subcontractors, site installations, commissioning or technical project delivery would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of integrated systems, fibre-optic networks, access control or security technologies would be beneficial.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to work with contractors and maintain high installation standards.
  • A willingness to travel to project sites across London, the South East and occasionally further afield.

The projects
You'll gain exposure to a varied portfolio of infrastructure and energy projects, potentially including offshore wind onshore substations, major London infrastructure, transport facilities and specialist industrial installations.

There will also be opportunities to develop your experience in emerging technologies, including fibre-optic sensing and advanced systems integration.

Where could this take you?
This is more than a standard Project Engineer position. The intention is to develop someone who can grow with the business, progressing from Project Engineer to Construction Management, with the longer-term potential to take on wider responsibility for communications delivery.
You'll benefit from hands-on mentoring, technical development and the opportunity to build a career working on complex, high-profile infrastructure projects.

Interested in taking the next step?
If you have a telecoms or IT background and want to move into project delivery, develop your site experience and build towards a management role, I'd be keen to have a confidential conversation.
