Job Description

Overview

The API Developer will design, build, and optimize enterprise-grade APIs that power critical business applications. This role requires deep hands-on experience with modern backend development using Java, Node.js, and TypeScript, combined with 5+ years of recent, practical experience integrating with AWS services and Guidewire platforms. The ideal candidate is a senior engineer who thrives in complex integration environments and can drive technical solutions end-to-end.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful and event-driven APIs using Java, Node.js, and TypeScript.
  • Lead integration efforts between internal systems, AWS cloud services, and Guidewire applications (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, or related modules).
  • Implement secure, high-performance API solutions aligned with enterprise standards and best practices.
  • Design and optimize CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native deployments within AWS.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, product owners, QA, and Guidewire specialists to deliver robust integration solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex API, cloud, and Guidewire integration issues across distributed systems.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience developing APIs using Java, Node.js, and TypeScript.
  • 5+ years of RECENT/CURRENT experience integrating with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, SNS/SQS, Step Functions, etc.).
  • 5+ years of RECENT/CURRENT experience building integrations with Guidewire (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, or Cloud).
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and API design patterns.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.) and IaC (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK).
  • Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Strong knowledge of authentication/authorization standards (OAuth2, JWT, IAM).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Guidewire Cloud or Guidewire Integration certifications.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis).
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).
  • Background in insurance or financial services environments
