Retail Systems Technician

At Johnson Controls, this role supports retail customers by installing, servicing, and repairing Inventory Control and Video equipment in store environments. You will work with EAS and RFID systems, handle service documentation, and help customers use their equipment effectively while supporting opportunities to grow within the business.

\nRole Overview\n

As an Installation and Service Technician, you will deliver hands-on field service work at customer sites, combining installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance with clear communication and accurate recordkeeping. The role requires technical aptitude, customer focus, and the ability to work safely and independently in varied retail environments.

\nKey Responsibilities\n

\n
• Install, service, troubleshoot, repair, and perform maintenance on retail products and equipment at customer sites.
\n
• Track service calls in a computer system, including accounts serviced, work performed, hours, and administrative time.
\n
• Maintain an accurate parts inventory to support a strong first-time-fix rate.
\n
• Demonstrate and train customers on the proper use of their equipment.
\n
• Support service work on Video products, EAS equipment, and RFID equipment.
\n
• Keep your manager informed about customer satisfaction, recurring issues, and potential sales opportunities.
\n
• Complete additional tasks as needed to support the team and customer needs.
\n

\nHow You Will Do It\n

• Own each service visit with accountability, safety, and integrity from arrival through completion.
\n
• Stay close to the customer’s needs by listening carefully, working efficiently on site, and removing obstacles that affect equipment performance.
\n
• Document work clearly and on time so service calls, parts usage, and follow-up actions are easy to track.
\n
• Use a problem-solving mindset to identify recurring issues, improve first-time-fix results, and escalate concerns early when needed.
\n
• Work as one team by sharing updates with your manager, supporting customer communication, and collaborating across the service process.
\n
• Keep learning and improving every day as you build your technical knowledge across video, EAS, and RFID equipment.
\n

\nQualifications\n

\n
• High School Diploma or GED.
\n
• Associate degree in Electronics and/or Networking, or technical military equivalent.
\n
• Valid driver's license.
\n
• General knowledge of electronics.
\n
• State licensing as required, depending on the state.
\n
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to use hand and power tools.
\n
• Ability to perform physical labor and lift or move equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
\n
• Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, including ladders, scaffolding, high lift equipment up to 40 feet, ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
\n
• Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to learn quickly.
\n
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
\n
• Functional and practical MS Office and PC skills.
\n
• Confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities.
\n
• Ability to travel and work overtime as needed.
\n
• Ability to complete Basic EAS/Video new hire classroom certifications.
\n
• Ability to complete RFID Basic Certification.
\n

\nNice to Have\n

\n
• Experience with Inventory Control equipment, Video products, EAS equipment, or RFID equipment.
\n
• Ability to review plans, diagrams, and flow charts to support project execution.
\n
• Strong troubleshooting skills for more complex service issues.
\n
• Experience working directly with retail customers in a field service environment.
\n

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $30.58-$42.01 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
