Quick Overview
Job Description
Join our R&D team as a Process Development Scientist at our Haverhill manufacturing site to play a key role in designing and conducting laboratory scale process engineering experiments and developing and improving process performance.
The successful candidate will design and conduct laboratory-scale process engineering experiments involving operations such as mixing, filtration, heating, cooling, pumping, drying, and separation. You will develop and improve experimental setups, investigate process performance, and translate experimental observations into practical process improvements.
You will also apply, or be supported in developing, skills in process modelling, Design of Experiments (DoE), Process Analytical Technology (PAT), and data analytics. Previous experience in one or more of these areas would be a significant advantage.
Your Responsibilities
You will:
· Design, plan, and conduct hands-on chemical process engineering experiments at laboratory scale, covering unit operations such as mixing, filtration, heating, cooling, pumping, drying, and separation.
· Develop, modify, and troubleshoot experimental setups to improve safety, reliability, data quality, and process performance.
· Develop and apply process models to support process understanding, optimisation, and scale-up.
· Design experimental programmes and apply Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies to investigate critical process parameters, maximise learning, and improve experimental efficiency.
· Support the development and implementation of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) approaches for process monitoring and control.
· Use statistical analysis, multivariate data analysis, and other data-driven methods to extract insights from experimental data.
· Analyse and interpret experimental results, translating findings into practical recommendations.
· Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and project teams to deliver process development objectives.
· Contribute to process scale-up and technology transfer activities where required.
· Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, documentation, and data integrity.
Our Requirements
· Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
· Proven practical experience in laboratory-scale chemical process development, including planning and conducting experiments.
· Hands-on experience setting up, operating, modifying, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
· A sound understanding of chemical engineering principles and unit operations, such as mixing, filtration, heating, cooling, pumping, drying, and separation.
· Ability to analyse experimental results and translate findings into practical process or equipment improvements.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and technical reporting abilities.
Desirable Skills
Experience in process modelling and simulation.
Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, R, or similar analytical software.
Experience within pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, speciality chemicals, biotechnology, or advanced materials development.
Knowledge or practical experience of Design of Experiments (DoE).
Knowledge of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), process instrumentation, or real-time process monitoring.
Experience in statistical analysis, multivariate data analysis, chemometrics, or other data-driven methods.
Experience with scale-up, pilot plant operations, or manufacturing support.
Knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD) principles.
Key Competencies
· Excellent communication
· Able to work both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Practical and resourceful with hands on approach and ‘can do’ attitude
Your Benefits
· Attractive Salary
· Competitive benefits
· Training & Development
· Open and friendly working environment
