Job Description

Data Engineer Lead – AWS, Snowflake, Advanced SQL

Location: Richmond, VA or Atlanta, GA Type: Contract (W2 / 1099) – through December 2027 Employment: No C2C / No third-party vendors Openings: 3 Interview: Immediate

About the Role seeking Data Engineer Leads with advanced SQL and Snowflake skills to join a long-term data modernization program for a healthcare client. This is a hands-on lead role: you will build and optimize pipelines yourself while guiding a small pod of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain ELT/ETL pipelines into Snowflake using AWS-native services
  • Write, tune, and review complex SQL (CTEs, window functions, semi-structured/JSON, performance optimization)
  • Build reusable data models and transformation layers to support analytics and reporting
  • Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting
  • Lead a small team of engineers: task breakdown, code reviews, and technical guidance
  • Collaborate with architects, analysts, and QA in an Agile environment

Required Skills

  • 7+ years in data engineering, including 2+ years leading engineers or workstreams
  • Advanced SQL – must be able to demonstrate in a technical interview
  • Strong hands-on Snowflake experience (warehouses, streams, tasks, Snowpipe, RBAC, performance tuning)
  • AWS data services (S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Kinesis, or similar)
  • Python for data processing and automation
  • Experience with dbt, Airflow, or comparable orchestration/transformation tooling

Nice to Have

  • Healthcare data experience (claims, membership, clinical, HIPAA-regulated environments) is a plus
  • Snowflake SnowPro certification
