AECOM is seeking a creative, talented Interior Designer for our Boston, MA office, central to our operations in New England. AECOM’s Buildings + Places business line is dedicated to design excellence and integrated project delivery solutions with expertise including architecture, interiors, engineering, development, workplace strategy, economic planning, master planning, project management, and construction services. We interface and collaborate with our Transportation, Water, Environment and Advisory business lines daily. Our B+P Boston studio provides industry-leading design projects in aviation, transit, science, government and higher education markets. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
- Responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline leaders.
- Under some supervision, may complete design assignments of moderate complexity. Analyzes issues and identifies solutions using existing techniques and proposes approaches for novel issues. Exercises independent judgement in determining how work is performed
- Ready to begin client-facing interactions including presentations, meetings, answering questions, and following up on issues
- Familiarity with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline
- Facile with the process of preparing designs, presentations and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards and procedures.
- Intermediate understanding of the purpose and use of vendor documents
- Meets deadlines and works within budget constraints, with understanding of the range of materials and labor costs
- Understands the construction process – field review, change orders, RFIs, quality review, etc.
- Is collaborative and problem-solving, has a positive outlook, and is adaptable to new procedures, priorities, standards, and technologies (including an interest in AI)
- Acquires skills, technical capabilities, and industry knowledge through education, training, and new experiences; experiments with new approaches; shares key learning with team members
- Ability to manage and communicate with junior and senior staff
- Adheres to quality control procedures and tactics
- This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes office work in Boston, MA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Boston, MA on a scheduled basis
- Travel domestically and occasionally internationally, as needed. On average the travel will be 10-15%
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture and 4 years of related interior design experience in commercial interior construction projects or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suites software (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), intermediate MS Office Suite skills
- US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the projects
- NCIDQ or NCARB certification (or ability to obtain within 18 months)
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated interior design experience on government projects
- Demonstrated experience completing UFC- compliant Comprehensive Interior Design packages
- 6+ years of Interior Design experience is desirable
- Strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills fostering a positive work environment
- Working knowledge of CDs and procedures
- Working knowledge of contract interiors FF+E market including manufacturers and dealers, and experience documenting FF&E specifications and assembling bid packages
- Working knowledge of the application of color, materials, and aesthetic form
- Demonstrated experience in working with other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, telecom, fire protection
- Sketching, rendering, and architectural detailing skills
- Demonstrated experience in space planning, building codes, and ADA requirements
- Ability to travel periodically domestically or internationally
- Master’s degree in Interior Design

Travel to client sites will be required across the US and, where necessary, internationally with approximately 10-15% travel.
