Front End Engineer React UI/UX AI

Day Rate: 350- 450 per day
Contract: 3-6 months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Location: Fully Remote (UK) - Occasional London Office Visits

About the Role

I'm working with an exciting, fast-growing AI start-up looking for a talented Front End Engineer to help build and shape its core product.
We're looking for someone with 5+ years of commercial experience, strong React and TypeScript skills, and a genuine passion for UI/UX and building exceptional user experiences.
This is an opportunity to join an ambitious start-up at an exciting stage of its growth, working closely with the founders and engineering team to turn complex AI capabilities into intuitive, engaging and user-friendly applications.
You'll have significant ownership over the front-end development, influence product decisions and play a key role in shaping the user experience from the ground up.
The position is fully remote across the UK, with only occasional visits to the London office required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high-quality front-end applications using React and TypeScript.

  • Build intuitive, responsive and visually engaging user interfaces.

  • Translate product requirements and design concepts into seamless user experiences.

  • Work directly with founders and engineers to shape product features and technical direction.

  • Integrate front-end applications with APIs, AI services and backend systems.

  • Help make complex AI functionality accessible through clean, intuitive UI/UX.

  • Contribute to front-end architecture, reusable components and coding standards.

  • Optimise application performance, accessibility and responsiveness.

  • Take ownership of features from concept through to delivery.

  • Work in a fast-paced start-up environment where ideas evolve quickly and engineering input is valued.

Essential Technical Skills

  • Strong commercial experience with React.

  • Excellent knowledge of TypeScript and JavaScript.

  • Strong HTML5 and CSS3 skills.

  • Experience building responsive, modern web applications.

  • Solid understanding of UI/UX principles and user-centred design.

  • Experience integrating REST APIs and third-party services.

  • Familiarity with Git and modern front-end development workflows.

  • Experience building maintainable and scalable front-end applications.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with AI-powered products or SaaS platforms.

  • Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI.

  • Experience integrating OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or similar AI APIs.

  • Experience with Next.js.

  • Familiarity with modern UI frameworks and component libraries.

  • Previous experience in a start-up or early-stage product team.

  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and rapid prototyping.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll be a hands-on engineer who combines strong technical skills with a keen eye for design and usability. You're comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership and collaborating directly with founders to turn ideas into high-quality products.
You'll thrive in a start-up environment where innovation, flexibility and initiative are valued, and where your contribution will have a direct impact on the product.
