Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.
The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within the Huawei Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Principal/Expert Engineer - Power Module Application and Definition (m/f/d)
Your mission
Define power module product specifications (IGBT, SiC MOSFET, GaN) for target segments including EV,PV, PCS and AI datacenter power, translating market trends and customer needs into clear PRD and technical roadmaps.
Define system-level application architectures and reference designs for power modules across target segments, optimizing converter performance and accelerating customer system integration.
Drive application-led innovation by translating emerging market trends into power module system solutions and new use cases.
Establish a power module application evaluation and validation platform covering converter-level characterization, system integration testing, and application-specific reliability to accelerate technology deployment.
Lead joint research initiatives with European universities and institutions in specialized research domains.
Your areas of expertise
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with focus in power electronic or power module.
Deep understanding of power module and power semiconductor
Experience with power converter design, power module developments and applications.
Power electronics and converter topologies for EV, PV, PCS or MVDC
Power converter system design, including advanced topologies, modulation and control strategies, and their impact on system efficiency, power density, EMI behavior, and thermal performance, proficient in system-level electrical design, component selection methodology, and thermal management for power converters
System-level design methodology spanning electro-thermal co-simulation, lifetime modeling, isolation coordination, and cost-performance optimization Advanced electro-thermal and system-level simulation methodologies for power module application performance prediction and optimization
Application-oriented understanding of IGBT/SiC MOSFET/GaN device characteristics and their system-level implications, including loss modeling under realistic drive cycles, application-specific reliability assessment, gate drive requirements, and protection schemes in converter systems.
Industry standards and certification schemes (AQG324, IEC 60747) for automotive and industrial power modules
Full product lifecycle experience from customer requirement analysis and system-level specification definition through application prototyping, field validation, and volume deployment for power converters using advanced power modules.
Demonstrated track record of defining application-optimized power module solutions that achieved volume adoption in EV traction drives, PV inverters, or high-power PCS systems..
Simulation and modeling tools for multi-physics co-simulation.
