ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a CAD Drafter Substation P&C to join their Distribution Design team on a 12-month contract-to-hire basis, working on-site in Akron, OH (Columbus, OH considered). As a key member of the technical team supporting First Energy distribution work, you will collaborate with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers to create and revise technical drawings for pole replacement, distribution design, and electrical distribution projects. This role requires adherence to company, client, and ANSI drafting standards, supporting field data collection and permit pulling, and managing multiple projects independently. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, eager to learn, and possesses strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a growth mindset and the ability to leverage emerging technologies.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Prepare new engineering drawings and revise existing drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts.
  • Adhere to company, client, and ANSI drafting standards and procedures.
  • Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, ACADE) for technical drawing creation and revision.
  • Support field data collection and assist with permit pulling as required by project locality.
  • Manage multiple concurrent distribution projects independently, meeting weekly deadlines.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned by managers.
  • Collaborate with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers within the Distribution team.
  • Maintain basic proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ensure all drafting work supports pole replacement, distribution design, and electrical distribution projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Associate's degree in a CAD-related program or specialized CAD certification plus at least 2 years of relevant drafting experience.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, circuit design, and substation project estimating.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn, with an aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Growth mindset, comfortable leveraging AI tools and emerging technology.
  • Innovative thinker with the ability to become a technical leader quickly.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with CAD, Bluebeam, and ACADE is a plus.
