Head of ERM

An insurer is seeking an experienced Head of Enterprise Risk Management to play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening its enterprise-wide risk framework. This is a highly visible leadership position offering significant exposure to executive leadership, board committees and key regulatory stakeholders. You will be responsible for driving the continued development and enhancement of the organisation's risk management framework across underwriting, reserving, investment and credit risk.

You will ensure material risks are identified, assessed, monitored and managed effectively in line with agreed risk appetite, while providing independent challenge to support robust decision-making across the business. The role will lead the delivery of critical risk management activities, including own risk and solvency assessments, internal model validation and regulatory reporting.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders to review business strategy, portfolio management, underwriting performance, reinsurance effectiveness and investment strategy, providing insightful analysis and constructive challenge that supports long-term business objectives. You will be instrumental in promoting a strong risk culture across the organisation, ensuring regulatory requirements are met and that risk management remains embedded throughout the business.

The successful candidate will also maintain effective relationships with regulators and external stakeholders while overseeing board and executive-level risk reporting. As a senior leader within the function, you will be responsible for building, developing and mentoring a team of risk professionals, fostering a collaborative and commercially focused approach to risk management. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within the insurance sector and extensive experience operating within enterprise risk management.

You will possess a deep understanding of risk management frameworks, actuarial and analytical disciplines, regulatory expectations and the commercial factors that influence risk decisions. Strong knowledge of PRA and FCA regulations, together with a sound understanding of Solvency UK requirements, is essential. You will be comfortable operating at both strategic and technical levels, with the credibility and influence to engage effectively with boards, executive committees and senior business leaders.

Previous people leadership experience is required, and candidates with an actuarial qualification or significant actuarial experience will be particularly well regarded.
