The opportunityWe have an exciting temporary opportunity until December 2027 for a Senior Test Engineer (Control Systems) to join the ATRICS (Advanced Train Running and Information Control System) Test Team within the Engineering Systems Integrity (ESI) section at Sydney Trains.
In this role, you will plan, coordinate and undertake the verification and validation of critical software and control system products that support the operation of the Sydney Trains network. You will also be responsible for preparing and managing technical specifications, test plans, test procedures, engineering reports and supporting evidence required for product acceptance and type approval.
Reporting to the Test Manager (ATRICS), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality control systems product testing in accordance with approved requirements, designs and scheduled delivery timeframes. You will also undertake independent verification and validation activities to assess software and system products against approved requirements, design specifications and operational needs.
- Tertiary (degree level) qualifications in electrical or computer systems engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience testing integrated hardware and software systems in safety-critical systems or operational technology environments, such as railway signalling, rail control, cybersecurity or industrial control systems.
- Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating complex testing activities, managing test dependencies and providing technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience analysing requirements and design specifications to prepare comprehensive test plans, test procedures, traceability evidence and engineering test reports.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Windows environments and diagnostic tools to configure systems, investigate faults and support system testing.
- Demonstrated experience in system testing, fault investigation and identifying system deficiencies under test conditions, including communication protocols based on serial and IP networking technologies.
- Demonstrated experience with virtualised environments, Windows Server platforms and networked systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience presenting technical findings, risks and recommendations to engineering and project stakeholders.
