Job Description

The Senior Applications Development Leader leads the IT team in the analysis, programming, and configuration of end user applications and/or systems software. This job interacts with executive leadership and others concerning matters of significance to the organization, and makes decisions that have a considerable impact on the overall success or failure of their area of accountability. This job owns short to mid-term strategy execution and operational direction in alignment with organization objectives. Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Oversees the execution of the development and implementation of IT applications and applications systems analysis and programming activities that enable the organization's business processes.
  • Consults and advises leadership in determining and developing IT application strategies and effective integration of these strategies to meet organization-wide business needs.
  • Represents the organization when selecting IT hardware and software vendors to ensure organization IT needs are met according to cost, performance, delivery, quality, and service standards.
  • Conducts organization-wide IT quality assurance and audits to ensure compliance with defined standards.
  • Manages multiple IT teams led by Managers and/or Directors.
  • Directs, motivates, develops and manages the performance of the IT Applications management team and key staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Applications Development Leader leads the IT team in the analysis, programming, and configuration of end user applications and systems software, with a specific mandate to transform how application delivery work is structured - shifting teams from reactive, ticket-driven operations toward a continuously improving, autonomous system. This job interacts with executive leadership and others concerning matters of significance to the organization and makes decisions that have a considerable impact on the overall success or failure of their area of accountability. This job owns short-to-mid-term strategy execution and operational direction in alignment with organization objectives, including actively partnering in the adoption and maturation of the Agentic Operating Model across the enterprise technology landscape.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees the execution of the development and implementation of IT applications and systems analysis and programming activities that enable the organization's business processes, serving as a champion and early adopter of the Agentic Operating Model - a continuously improving system where intelligent automation identifies operational issues, generates improvement plans, and executes approved changes within human-governed boundaries.
  • Consults and advises leadership in determining and developing IT application strategies and effective integration of these strategies to meet organization-wide business needs, including partnering with organizational leaders to advance the phased adoption of the Agentic Operating Model and aligning its capabilities to business priorities such as the Retirement Day in the Life initiative and Recordkeeping Transformation.
  • Represents the organization when selecting IT hardware and software vendors to ensure organization IT needs are met according to cost, performance, delivery, quality, and service standards,
  • Conducts organization-wide IT quality assurance and audits to ensure compliance with defined standards, including governance of the safety guardrails, audit controls, and human oversight boundaries that ensure all automated systems operate within regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Manages multiple IT teams led by Managers and/or Directors, including Operations Oversight Teams that evaluate and approve agent-produced improvement plans, Agent Engineering Teams that build and refine the intelligent agents, and the leadership team responsible for enterprise communications platforms serving TIAA customers.
  • Directs, motivates, develops, and manages the performance of the IT Applications management team and key staff, with an emphasis on building a hybrid human-agent workforce - developing leaders who direct automated workflows across capability areas, deep specialists who handle complex escalations, and professionals who ensure the automated systems operate safely, ethically, and within all regulatory boundaries.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of technology team leadership experience

  • University degree
  • Experience owning and modernizing complex platforms
  • Experience in building agentic applications

Anticipated Posting End Date:

Base Pay Range: $186,000/yr - $250,000/yr

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
