Quick Overview
Job Description
- Cheshire - Hybrid – Up to £60,000 -
Want to build better data solutions and see the impact they have on business decisions?
We're looking for a Data Engineer to join an established organisation undergoing a significant transformation programme. This is an opportunity to work with modern Azure data technologies, develop reliable data pipelines and help turn complex data into meaningful business insight.
With a particular focus on business intelligence and reporting, this role would suit someone who enjoys the engineering behind the data as much as the value it delivers to the business.
The opportunity
You'll help develop and support the organisation's Azure data platform, working with data from multiple sources to create reliable, well-structured datasets for reporting, analytics and wider business applications.
Working alongside experienced data professionals, BI teams, architects and the wider transformation function, you'll contribute to improving data quality, integration and accessibility across operational, financial and client reporting.
This is a hands-on role where you can build on your existing experience, learn from others and develop your technical skills within a business investing in its data capabilities.
The position is offered on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the intention of providing a longer-term opportunity and potential for permanent employment.
What you'll be doing
- Building and maintaining data pipelines within Azure, using Databricks, PySpark and Azure Data Factory.
- Developing SQL and Spark transformations to ingest, cleanse and prepare data from multiple sources.
- Applying data modelling and lakehouse principles to create reliable, reusable datasets.
- Supporting data migration and integration as part of a wider business transformation programme.
- Preparing and optimising datasets to support Power BI reporting and business intelligence.
- Working with internal teams and external vendors to ensure data is accurate, traceable, secure and available when needed.
- Contributing to improvements in data quality, performance and delivery processes.
- Documenting solutions and sharing knowledge across the team.
What we're looking for
We're interested in someone with a good grounding in data engineering who wants to continue developing their skills.
You'll ideally bring:
- Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and PySpark.
- Strong SQL skills, including data transformations and querying complex datasets.
- Experience developing or maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines.
- Knowledge of Azure Data Factory or similar data integration tools.
- An understanding of dimensional data modelling and lakehouse concepts.
- Experience working with BI teams, Power BI datasets or reporting solutions.
- A collaborative approach, good problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
Experience with Delta Lake, Azure DevOps, CI/CD or ITIL-aligned environments would be beneficial. Exposure to finance, procurement, hospitality or retail data would also be useful, but is not essential.
You don't need to have led a major data migration or worked at enterprise architect level. The important thing is having the right technical foundations, a practical mindset and the motivation to learn.
What's on offer?
- Salary of up to £60,000.
- An initial 12-month fixed-term contract.
- The opportunity to work with Azure Databricks, PySpark and modern data platform technologies.
- Exposure to a significant transformation programme and a broad range of business data.
- The chance to learn from experienced colleagues and develop your career, with longer-term and permanent opportunities anticipated.
