Job Description

HR Business Partner - Longstanton
50,000 - 60,000 Per annum
Hybrid working - 3 days in the office, 2 days WFH

Make This Role Your Own

This isn't a seat to fill - it's a role to shape. We're looking for an HR Business Partner who wants genuine autonomy: the freedom to build the People Plan from the ground up, influence how the business grows, and put their own stamp on HR at John Henry Group. If you're ambitious, hands-on, and ready to move beyond process-following into real strategic influence, this is your opportunity to define what great HR looks like here.

About the Role

As HR Business Partner, you'll act as a trusted advisor to leaders across the business while also leading a small team. You'll balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery - one day shaping workforce plans and succession strategy, the next coaching a manager through a complex ER case. You'll have the space and support to bring your own ideas, challenge the status quo, and build something you're proud of.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR
- Develop and deliver the People Plan
- Partner with leaders on organisational development
- Lead on workforce planning and succession planning
- Drive talent management and employee engagement initiatives
- Support and shape culture development across the business

Business Partnering
- Coach and support managers through people issues
- Provide expert, up-to-date advice on employment law
- Lead complex employee relations cases
- Support restructures and organisational change, including TUPE
- Drive performance management practices across teams

HR Leadership
- Lead HR projects from concept through to delivery
- Develop and refine HR policies
- Monitor HR KPIs and use data to inform decisions
- Manage employee relations activity
- Oversee HR compliance

Team Leadership
- Line manage the HR Operations Specialist
- Allocate workloads effectively across the team
- Coach and develop the HR Operations Specialist's skills and career
- Review and maintain the quality of HR service delivery

What We're Looking For

- Proven experience as an HR Business Partner or similar generalist HR role
- Strong knowledge of employment law and employee relations casework
- Experience supporting organisational change, restructures, and ideally TUPE
- Confidence coaching and influencing managers at all levels
- Experience managing or mentoring a direct report
- Someone self-directed, comfortable with autonomy, and motivated to build and own their remit

What's On Offer?

- Salary up to 60,000
- Hybrid working: 3 days in the office (Longstanton, Cambridge area), 2 days from home
- A genuinely autonomous role with real scope to shape strategy and process
- The opportunity to lead and develop a team member
- A business that values initiative and wants HR to have a real seat at the table

If you're ready to stop maintaining someone else's HR function and start building your own, we'd love to hear from you!
