About the role

Overview of the role

This role plays a key part in supporting the day-to-day running of our production operations, ensuring manufacturing, testing, and material control activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The Production Supervisor will work closely with the Production Manager, Operations, and Engineering teams to help coordinate workflow across the workshop and ensure production targets are met.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a dynamic manufacturing environment, supporting a multi-disciplined team and helping to maintain strong standards across quality, safety, and delivery performance.

What you’ll be responsible for

Your main responsibilities will include:

· Supervise, support, and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the workshop manufacturing team, allocating work and ensuring production priorities and expectations are clearly understood.

· Coordinate day-to-day production activities in line with the agreed production plan, monitoring progress against workshop schedules and taking appropriate action to address delays, constraints and competing priorities.

· Monitor production performance against agreed measures, including output, schedule adherence, quality, rework and delivery, escalating risks and implementing corrective actions where appropriate.

· Provide day-to-day people leadership, including coaching, feedback, attendance monitoring, capability development and support with performance or conduct matters in line with company procedures.

· Identify team skills and training requirements and support the development of a competent, flexible and appropriately trained production workforce.

· Run or support regular workshop briefings to communicate production priorities, safety matters, quality issues, operational risks and performance.

· Promote and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring health and safety requirements, risk assessments, safe systems of work and workshop standards are understood and followed.

· Address unsafe conditions or behaviours promptly and support incident, near-miss and hazard reporting and investigation where required.

· Ensure production activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, work instructions and quality requirements.

· Support and oversee quality checks throughout production, ensuring defects, deviations and non-conformances are identified, recorded, contained and appropriately escalated.

· Support root-cause investigation and corrective action activities relating to production, quality and delivery issues.

· Ensure production documentation, job records, test records, material traceability and configuration-control requirements are completed accurately and on time.

· Oversee day-to-day material control within the workshop, ensuring materials are available when required, stock movements are accurately recorded, and shortages or discrepancies are identified and escalated.

· Proactively identify production constraints, resource issues, material shortages and technical problems, working with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and other teams to minimise disruption.

· Ensure tools, equipment and workshop facilities are maintained to the required standard, reporting defects and coordinating maintenance or calibration requirements as appropriate.

· Drive good housekeeping and workplace organisation, supporting appropriate 5S or similar workplace improvement practices where applicable.

· Lead and support continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, productivity, workflow, waste reduction and overall production efficiency.

· Provide accurate and timely production updates, highlighting performance, risks, issues and recovery actions to the Production Manager.

· Deputise for the Production Manager on agreed day-to-day operational matters when required.

About you

What you’ll bring

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

· Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment, with previous supervisory, team leader or senior operative experience.

· Strong people leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and support a multi-disciplined team.

· Experience allocating and coordinating work across a production team and managing changing priorities.

· Good understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning, workshop operations and quality standards.

· Experience monitoring production progress and resolving day-to-day operational issues.

· Confidence in providing feedback and supporting conversations relating to attendance, performance, capability and development.

· Ability to interpret production schedules, technical documentation, drawings, specifications and manufacturing instructions.

· Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage priorities, resources and workload effectively.

· A practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Good awareness of health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment and a willingness to challenge unsafe practices.

· Strong attention to detail with an understanding of the importance of accurate production records, traceability and quality documentation.

· Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain and other functions.

· A proactive approach to continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery and efficiency.

Nice to have

Although not essential, if you’re also able to demonstrate the following, we’ll take that into account when assessing your application:

· Experience within electrical, control and instrumentation manufacturing environments.

· Experience using ERP, MRP, inventory or workshop management systems.

· Experience working within regulated industries such as defence, nuclear or energy.

· Knowledge of configuration control, material traceability and controlled manufacturing documentation.

· Experience supporting non-conformance, root-cause analysis and corrective action processes.

· Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S or other continuous improvement methodologies.

· Formal qualification in engineering, manufacturing or a related technical discipline.

· Relevant supervisory, leadership or health and safety qualification.
