Job Description

Project Engineer – Roadway / CPM Schedule Review
Contract | $110 per hour | Las Vegas, Nevada / Hybrid or Remote Depending on Experience

Gypsum Resources is seeking an experienced Project Engineer with substantial roadway and critical path scheduling experience for a short-term consulting assignment involving review of the development schedule for a large land-development and infrastructure project in Clark County, Nevada.

This is not a traditional design-production role and is not initially an expert-witness position. We are looking for a practicing or recently practicing engineer who can independently evaluate the project’s Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule, identify the activities actually controlling project completion, and assess whether engineering redesign, agency review, right-of-way, permitting, or other project activities affected the critical path.

The assignment will involve review of project schedules, engineering milestones, agency and permitting timelines, and contemporaneous project records. The engineer should be comfortable working independently and reaching conclusions based on the project record, including conclusions that may differ from the expectations of the client.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review baseline and updated project schedules and identify the critical path and near-critical paths.
  • Evaluate logic relationships, durations, constraints, float, sequencing, and schedule assumptions.
  • Determine whether the critical path changed over time and identify the events responsible for any change.
  • Assess whether roadway engineering, redesign, permitting, agency review, right-of-way, utility coordination, or other project activities caused actual critical-path delay or merely consumed available float.
  • Evaluate potential concurrent delays and independent project constraints.
  • Review relevant engineering and project-control records necessary to understand the schedule.
  • Identify missing information or schedule deficiencies that prevent reliable conclusions.
  • Prepare a concise written assessment and discuss conclusions with project management and outside counsel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field.
  • Significant professional experience with roadway, highway, transportation, or major civil-infrastructure projects.
  • Direct experience developing, maintaining, or critically reviewing CPM schedules.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Critical path and float
    • Schedule logic and constraints
    • Baseline versus updated schedules
    • Delay and concurrency
    • Sequence changes and recovery schedules
    • Design, permitting, utility, and right-of-way dependencies
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or comparable professional scheduling software.
  • Ability to read roadway plans, profiles, grading plans, and related civil-engineering documents.
  • Ability to explain schedule conclusions clearly to non-engineers.

Strongly Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • 10+ years of roadway or civil-infrastructure experience.
  • Experience as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Resident Engineer, Project Controls Engineer, or Scheduler on major roadway projects.
  • Experience with public-agency review and permitting.
  • Experience evaluating schedule impacts associated with design changes, utility conflicts, right-of-way, environmental approvals, or agency delays.
  • Nevada or Southwest roadway experience is helpful but not required.

Nature of Assignment

This is an independent consulting review. We are specifically seeking someone with current or recent real-world project experience rather than a career litigation expert.

The initial assignment is to independently evaluate the project’s CPM schedule and determine what activities actually controlled completion. The engineer will not be asked to reach a predetermined conclusion.

Depending on the quality of the analysis and the engineer’s interest, the assignment could expand, but there is no requirement that the engineer serve as an expert witness.

Compensation: $110 per hour, contract basis.

Interested candidates should submit a résumé describing specific roadway projects and CPM scheduling experience. Please identify the scheduling software used and briefly describe one or two projects where you personally evaluated critical path, float, or delay.

I would add that last sentence about describing specific roadway and CPM experience because otherwise you will get a pile of general civil-engineering résumés from people who have seen a schedule but never actually interrogated one.

For LinkedIn, I would probably lead with a shorter hook:

We are looking for a roadway engineer who actually understands CPM—not a professional expert witness.
