Board Trustee Opportunities (Treasurer, Property & Estates, Safeguarding)

Sussex Emmaus is seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of a charity that provides a home, meaningful work and tailored support for people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. We are currently recruiting for three specialist trustee roles.

Trustee Treasurer

We are looking for a financially qualified individual to take on the role of Trustee Treasurer.

As Treasurer, you will provide financial oversight and assurance to the Board, helping trustees understand the charity's financial position and make informed decisions about its future. You will support the monitoring of financial performance, ensure appropriate financial controls are in place, and help ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in:

• Accountancy, finance or auditing
• Financial management and strategic planning
• Budgeting and financial reporting
• Risk management and governance

Trustee - Property, Estates & Health and Safety

We are seeking a trustee with experience in property, estates, facilities management, compliance, or health and safety.

This role will provide valuable expertise to support the oversight of our accommodation, commercial premises and wider estate. You will help the Board consider property-related risks, maintenance requirements, compliance obligations and the long-term management of our assets, ensuring our environment remains safe and sustainable.

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in:

• Property or estates management
• Facilities management
• Health and Safety
• Building compliance and maintenance
• Construction or asset management

Trustee - Safeguarding

We are looking for a trustee with safeguarding knowledge and experience to help strengthen safeguarding governance across the organisation.

As a safeguarding trustee, you will provide strategic oversight and assurance to the Board, helping ensure that effective safeguarding policies, practices and procedures are in place. You will act as a critical friend, supporting and challenging the organisation to maintain high standards of safeguarding for companions, staff, volunteers and visitors.

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in:

• Adult safeguarding
• Vulnerable adults and support services
• Housing, homelessness or social care
• Health, mental health or community services
• Safeguarding governance and compliance

What's Involved?

• Approximately six Board meetings per year, usually held in the evening at our Portslade community.
• Opportunities to contribute to Board sub-groups and strategic projects.
• Working collaboratively with fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and companions.
• Supporting the long-term sustainability and impact of Sussex Emmaus.

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential. We are keen to hear from people who share our values and want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by homelessness and social exclusion.
