Take the next step in your Histopathology career
An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist specialising in Histopathology and Dissection to join a growing private laboratory in Oxfordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished Biomedical Scientist who has built substantial experience in a busy diagnostic environment and is now looking for a role where their specialist dissection and cut-up expertise will be highly valued.
You’ll be joining during an exciting period of permanent expansion, becoming part of an ambitious laboratory environment where experienced scientists play an important role in delivering a high-quality diagnostic service.
What will your responsibilities be?
Dissection will be a major focus of this position. You’ll use your senior histopathology expertise across the specimen pathway while supporting the quality and efficiency of the wider laboratory service.
- Undertake histology specimen dissection and cut-up within your demonstrated competencies and professional scope of practice.
- Work with a range of histology specimens, including biopsies and larger specimens where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Contribute across the histopathology workflow, including embedding, microtomy, special stains, IHC support and slide quality control where required.
- Maintain accurate specimen documentation, macroscopic descriptions, block selection and LIMS records.
- Contribute to turnaround-time delivery, quality assurance and audit readiness.
- Work in accordance with UKAS accreditation, ISO 15189 standards and laboratory quality procedures.
- Use your senior-level experience to support colleagues, trainees and the wider laboratory team where appropriate.
What are we looking for?
Our priority is candidates with substantial histopathology experience and strong, demonstrable dissection skills.
Ideally, you will have:
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- BSc Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- At least five to seven years’ post-registration experience.
- Around four to five years’ experience at senior level.
- Significant hands-on Histopathology/Cellular Pathology experience.
- Excellent specimen dissection and cut-up skills.
- Sustained experience within a busy NHS Trust or hospital laboratory.
- Strong practical histology knowledge and an excellent understanding of laboratory quality standards.
- Experience of microtomy, embedding, quality control, special stains and immunohistochemistry would be advantageous.
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio, DEP, ASD or equivalent dissection competency would also be advantageous.
A permanent package designed to attract experienced specialists
- £60,000 to £65,000 base salary, depending on experience.
- £10,000 sign-on bonus.
- £10,000 relocation allowance.
- 25 days’ annual leave, increasing annually to 30 days.
- 37.5-hour working week.
- Permanent employment within an expanding histopathology service.
- Flexibility around weekday start times, including potential starts at 9am, 9.30am or 10am, where this supports commuting or childcare arrangements and works with laboratory coverage.
- Rotational weekend working is required.
- No on-call commitment.
Why make the move?
This is an opportunity to take the specialist skills you have developed over several years and bring them into a growing private laboratory where histopathology and dissection expertise are central to the role.
Rather than a temporary staffing requirement, these appointments form part of a permanent expansion plan. For the right Biomedical Scientist, it offers the chance to establish yourself within a growing service while continuing to develop your specialist career.
With a salary of up to £65,000, a combined £20,000 in sign-on and relocation support, increasing annual leave and flexibility around weekday start times, the package has been designed to attract experienced Histopathology Biomedical Scientists ready to make their next permanent move.
