AS400 RPG EDI Programmer Analyst

Introduction:

Our client is seeking energetic candidates for a Programmer Analyst role. The AS400 RPG Programmer Analyst will be responsible for analyzing, developing, and modifying software applications on the IBM iSeries using RPG/RPGLE. The ideal candidate will collaborate with business users and technical teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, test, and maintain RPG programs on IBM iSeries systems.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Modify and enhance existing applications to improve functionality and performance.
• Provide support for production systems, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with business analysts, end-users, and developers to gather requirements.
• Document program logic, processes, and system configurations.
• Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and integration projects.
• Ensure compliance with coding standards, security policies, and best practices.

Requirements:

Skills Required:

• IBM iSeries experience
• Excellent programming abilities using RPG, RPG ILE
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Must be detail oriented and highly organized
• Good communication skills
• Knowledge of VAI S2k, IFS, API’s

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with web services and APIs on IBM i
• Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, Infor, VAI, NetSuite)
• Exposure to Agile or Scrum methodologies
• Understanding of business processes in manufacturing, distribution, or finance

Abilities and Physical Requirements:

• Knowledge of current technological developments
• Knowledge of relevant multi-user systems, applications, and equipment
• Specialized skills in one or more programming languages
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• Experience in RPG programming (RPG IV, RPGLE, Free Format RPG)
• Strong knowledge of IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment
• Experience with CL programming, DB2/400, and SQL
• Knowledge of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)
• Familiarity with modern development tools and methodologies
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to manage projects effectively

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
