IBM MQ Integration Engineer

Overview
The Federal Reserve Bank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Integration Engineer / MQ Architect to join the National Integration Services (NIS) team within Information Technology Services. NIS provides critical middleware and integration services that support a broad range of Federal Reserve business functions and external partners, including the U.S. Treasury.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working across the full technology lifecycle, from architecture and design through implementation, automation, and operational support. The successful candidate will collaborate with architects, engineers, business analysts, and service managers to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available integration solutions in a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise integration solutions leveraging IBM MQ and related messaging technologies.
• Architect and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable middleware platforms.
• Support cloud-based infrastructure and integration services within AWS environments.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as Terraform and Packer.
• Participate in system design, software installation, configuration, testing, deployment, and operational support activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
• Support CI/CD initiatives by validating automated deployment and build pipelines.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and implementation plans.
• Participate in change management processes and provide technical guidance during deployments and production support activities.

Required Qualifications
Professional Experience

• 5-10 years of experience as an IBM MQ Architect, Integration Engineer, or Middleware Engineer.
• Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise integration solutions from architecture through production deployment.
• Experience supporting mission-critical, highly available enterprise environments.

Technical Skills
IBM MQ & Integration Technologies

• Advanced expertise with IBM MQ administration, architecture, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Strong experience with IBM Managed File Transfer (MFT).
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and messaging architectures.

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Experience managing and supporting AWS-based infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native services and production cloud environments.
• Experience designing secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, including:
  • Terraform (strongly preferred)
  • Packer
  • Ansible
  • Chef
  • Puppet
• Experience supporting automated build, deployment, and configuration management processes.

DevOps & CI/CD

• Experience implementing or supporting CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with automated testing and deployment methodologies.
• Experience with source code management tools such as Git.

Operating Systems & Scripting

• Strong Linux administration experience.
• Proficiency in Python scripting and automation.
• Experience working with JSON, YAML, Boto3, and related automation technologies.

Architecture & Security

• Strong knowledge of:
  • High availability and disaster recovery architectures
  • Load balancing and failover design
  • Enterprise security best practices
  • Distributed application architecture

• AWS certifications and/or production AWS experience.
• Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
• Knowledge of microservices, APIs, and service-oriented architecture (SOA).
• Experience with enterprise application server and web server technologies.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana.
• Experience supporting both internal and external enterprise integrations.
