BI Solution Analyst

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Solution Analyst with 9+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analysis, Business Analysis, or related areas.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in SQL, data analysis, data warehousing, BI/reporting solutions, and business requirements gathering. The candidate should be comfortable writing SQL queries to pull, validate, reconcile, and analyze data and should be able to trace data across source systems, ETL processes, data warehouses, and reporting platforms.

This role requires someone who can bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical/data teams, understand complex reporting requirements, investigate data issues, document solutions, and support the delivery of scalable BI solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements

• Partner with business stakeholders to understand business, reporting, and data requirements.
• Gather, analyze, and document business and technical requirements.
• Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications.
• Define reporting scope, objectives, business rules, and expected outcomes.
• Prepare requirements documentation, functional specifications, and solution documentation.
• Create and maintain source-to-target mapping documentation.
• Identify gaps, dependencies, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Work closely with technical teams to ensure business requirements are accurately implemented.

SQL & Data Analysis

• Write and execute complex SQL queries to extract data from relational databases.
• Pull, analyze, validate, and reconcile data to support business and reporting requirements.
• Investigate data discrepancies and identify the root cause of data issues.
• Perform data profiling and validation across multiple data sources.
• Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and business insights.
• Validate reporting results against source-system data.
• Use SQL to reverse-engineer existing reports, calculations, and business logic.
• Troubleshoot data-related issues across reporting and analytics environments.

BI & Reporting Solutions

• Analyze existing reporting processes and identify opportunities for modernization.
• Understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable BI solutions.
• Work with BI developers and technical teams to support reporting solution development.
• Analyze existing reports and reverse-engineer underlying data logic.
• Ensure reporting solutions accurately reflect business requirements and defined business rules.
• Support reporting, analytics, and dashboard development initiatives.
• Validate data and reporting outputs before implementation or release.

Data Warehousing & Data Integration

• Apply data warehousing concepts to enterprise reporting and analytics solutions.
• Understand relationships between source systems, staging layers, ETL processes, data warehouses, and reporting platforms.
• Analyze data structures, tables, relationships, transformations, and dependencies.
• Support data modeling and dimensional modeling initiatives.
• Understand fact and dimension tables, star schemas, data marts, and reporting layers.
• Work with ETL teams to understand and validate data transformations.
• Investigate data movement and transformation issues across different system layers.
• Support data integration and data quality initiatives.

Data Lineage & Mapping

• Trace data from source systems through transformation and ETL layers to reporting platforms.
• Develop and maintain data lineage documentation.
• Identify upstream and downstream data dependencies.
• Document how source fields are transformed and mapped into target systems.
• Validate data transformation rules and business logic.
• Assist technical teams in resolving data lineage and integration issues.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with business users, data teams, developers, BI teams, QA teams, and project stakeholders.
• Communicate technical findings and data analysis results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Explain complex data issues in a clear and business-friendly manner.
• Challenge assumptions and recommend alternative solutions when appropriate.
• Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and potential project roadblocks.
• Support decision-making by providing accurate data analysis and actionable recommendations.

Required Qualifications

• 9+ years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analysis, Business Analysis, Solution Analysis, or related fields.
• Strong hands-on experience writing SQL queries for data extraction and analysis.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and database concepts.
• Experience analyzing, validating, reconciling, and troubleshooting data.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing and reporting architectures.
• Experience gathering and documenting business and technical requirements.
• Experience creating source-to-target mappings and data lineage documentation.
• Experience working with ETL/data integration processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with both business and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with dimensional data modeling.
• Experience with ETL tools, particularly Informatica.
• Experience with BI and reporting platforms.
• Experience working with enterprise data warehouses and data marts.
• Experience with reporting modernization or legacy reporting transformation initiatives.
• Experience working in large enterprise data environments.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
