About the Role

This role leads financial strategy, planning and analysis, financial reporting, audits, compliance, and banking relationships for an education-focused nonprofit organization. The CFO collaborates closely with the CEO/Superintendent and executive team to shape the organization's financial strategy and operations, and engages regularly with the Board and finance committee on short, medium, and long-term financial planning.

Schedule

Full-time, on-site in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Compensation

$120,000 to $160,000 annually, depending on experience.

What You'll Do

The CFO develops forward-looking, predictive financial models and activity-based analyses to guide the organization's operations and business plans, and oversees systems designed to preserve assets and ensure accurate financial reporting. This person maintains strong relationships across the Board, CEO, leadership, and staff of the Administrative Office, Foundation, and Schools, and represents the organization to financial partners including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, and public officials.

Working with the finance committee, the CFO develops short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections, oversees preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and attends board and finance committee meetings as needed. This role oversees compliance with all internal and external contracts, agreements, and grants, and leads the accounting team through the Controller to ensure proper supervision and legal and regulatory compliance.

The CFO oversees cash flow planning, investments, asset management, and banking relationships, and leads the organization's budgeting and forecasting processes. This includes forecasting major revenue sources available from local, state, and federal government funding, maximizing state and federal aid, and identifying alternative revenue sources. The role ensures timely, accurate, and useful financial reporting to federal and state funders and the Foundation, and coordinates audits and tax filings.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a CFO role or equivalent
• Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting
• Experience in a senior leadership role partnering with executive staff on financial strategy
• Experience ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Ability to supervise and evaluate team performance to ensure high-quality programs and services

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Business Administration or equivalent
• CPA certification
• 10+ years of experience in a CFO role, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting with a budget of $75M or more
• Experience working across a variety of financial media, technology, and software platforms

Compensation and Benefits
