We're all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too. As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in guiding the design, development and support of application solutions across Australian Retirement Trust.
You'll bring technical depth, sound judgement and a continuous improvement mindset to help create secure, maintainable and high-performing software. Working closely with Technical Leads and delivery teams, you'll contribute to architectural decisions, set development standards, review code and designs, and support the delivery of quality solutions aligned to ART's technical strategy.
This is a hands-on role where you'll mentor developers, help manage critical issues and risks, and support an environment where engineering practices, tools and methods continue to evolve. Your work will help ART deliver meaningful technology outcomes that support our members and strengthen our market-leading position.
This role is a permanent opportunity and is based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.
ResponsibilitiesDay to day, you'll:
- Provide technical guidance and expertise across the design, development and support of ART's application solutions.
- Perform code and design reviews to help ensure consistent, secure and high-quality software solutions.
- Work with Technical Leads to set standards for programming tools, techniques, security guidelines and development methods.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and support the delivery of ART's technical strategy.
- Lead, analyse, develop, document and implement changes based on requests for change.
- Prioritise, diagnose and investigate incidents, supporting timely resolution and preventative action.
- Configure and test software, report outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Investigate problems across systems, processes and services, and help implement agreed remedies.
- Design, code, test, correct and document solutions using agreed specifications, standards and tools.
- Support release activities, including analysis of release components, scheduling input and build preparation.
- Maintain deep knowledge of relevant technical specialisms and provide expert advice to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Promote continuous improvement across the team and support better ways of working.
- Identify, assess and escalation risks in line with ART's Risk Management framework.
- Provide accurate cost and duration estimates through planning, estimation, design and architecture activities.
- Mentor and train team members, sharing knowledge in a clear and practical way.
- Support after-hours work or a rotating on-call roster when required to meet agreed service levels.
It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
- You have a bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Your background includes leading and mentoring developers within complex technology environments.
- You'll bring strong software development expertise and proficiency with relevant tools for your platform team.
- You're confident reviewing code and designs, and guiding others to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- You have excellent problem-solving, analytical and problem management skills.
- Your communication skills help you consult, negotiate and collaborate with business, technical and supplier stakeholders.
- You'll be comfortable developing and presenting reports, submissions and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- You're experienced in planning, prioritising and managing activities to deliver IT services that meet business expectations.
- You understand solution delivery lifecycle methodologies, including Waterfall and Agile.
- Your experience includes release coordination and quality assurance processes.
- You'll be able to teach, mentor and share technical knowledge clearly and effectively.
- You're familiar with ITIL practices or hold an ITIL Foundation certificate, which would be highly regarded.
- You may have experience in financial services, superannuation or another highly regulated industry.
- Your background may include support experience with complex event processing or high-volume transaction environments.
