Quick Overview
Job Description
We're a fast-growing B-corp marketplace for active outdoor adventures. We help people find and book the trips that change how they spend their time on the planet, and we direct money to small independent operators, local economies, and conservation work in the places those trips happen. 250+ trips across 60+ countries, 75% solo travellers, an excellent Trustpilot record, and a brand people genuinely love.
We're looking for a versatile part-time creative designer with a love of the outdoors, to cover a period of maternity leave, working within our established brand and illustration style to keep our creative output moving without missing a beat.
The Role
This is a key role to support our marketing team by creating eye-catching, on-brand designs that resonate with our audience and bring our adventures, community and stories to life.
This isn't a role to define our visual identity from scratch - that groundwork is already done. It's a role to execute brilliantly within it: producing on-brand, high-quality design across paid ad creatives, organic social, email, and stepping in on new campaign identities when they're needed, always within our existing look and feel.
You'll report to the Head of Content, work remotely (UK-based), and collaborate closely with the paid and organic marketing teams and our in-house product designer.
We're open to this being either a part-time hire or a freelance arrangement.
Why you'll love it here
We're driven by a shared passion for unleashing the transformative power of adventure. We embrace a culture of learning and improvement, constantly evolving how we work to suit the challenges we face. You'll find a supportive, collaborative environment where ideas are valued, feedback is encouraged, and experimentation is part of our DNA.
Key responsibilities
Creative Concept Ideation & Development
- Work with the marketing team to develop creative concepts and ideas that support campaign objectives, including new campaign identities where needed - always within our established look and feel.
- For launches and campaigns, create a cohesive set of design assets that flex across paid ads, organic social, and email - maintaining one consistent look and identity throughout.
Paid Ad Creatives
- Design scroll-stopping, on-brand paid ad creatives for Meta, Google, programmatic channels, and other paid platforms.
- Experiment with different formats at scale - statics, carousels, GIFs - while maintaining a consistent visual identity.
- Act on creative performance data - comfortable working to improve metrics like CTR and conversion rate, with bonus points for experience running creative tests at volume (e.g. creative variant testing, systematic A/B testing).
- Basic dashboard literacy - able to read performance data at a working level, as part of feedback loops with the paid and CRO teams.
- Comfortable working to a creative brief, as well as supporting the briefing and feedback process when working with external agencies.
Responsive Design
- Create visually compelling designs that work seamlessly across various screen sizes and devices, ensuring an optimal user experience.
Social Media & Organic Content
- Create templates and bespoke assets for organic social campaigns.
- Stay aware of platform-specific safe zones when designing social creative.
Email & Newsletter Design
- Design reusable and flexible email elements for newsletters and campaigns
Illustration & Diagrammatic Content
- Work within our established illustration style to create new, reusable visuals wherever they're needed.
- Create fun infographic-style and hand-drawn illustrative content - flow charts, infographics, and similar diagrammatic work.
Animation & Video Support
- Bring illustrations to life through animation (nice-to-have, but not essential).
- Support the video team with graphics, ensuring brand guideline adherence and elevating the look of graphics within video content.
Copywriting
- Write short-form copy for both paid and organic creative - not just the design, but the words within it (e.g. writing the copy for a paid carousel).
- Get into the mindset of a persona or customer desire, producing varied wording that engages and drives clicks.
- Enjoy wordplay and have fun with language, while following MBA's tone of voice.
Ad Hoc Design Support
- Review and provide feedback on visual product design work (app/web UI) and video creative to help maintain brand consistency across product surfaces.
- Support creative needs for new trip launches, campaigns, or one-off projects, as well as ad hoc support and requests from the wider team.
Creative
- 3-5 years experience working within a brand marketing team or creative agency.
- Proven experience designing for digital platforms, particularly paid ads, social channels, and email.
- Comfortable producing a consistent set of assets across multiple channels (paid, organic, email) for a single campaign or launch, adapting format without losing cohesion.
- A strong eye for hand-drawn or digital illustration, with the ability to follow an established style and create fun infographic-style, diagrammatic content (flow charts, infographics, etc.).
- Ability to write short-form copy for ads and organic content, tailored to a persona or customer desire, that engages and drives clicks - and enjoys the wordplay along the way.
- Meticulous about typography and typesetting, keeping visual consistency and polish across all creative output.
- Experience designing for print (e.g. magazine ads, print-ready artwork) and physical products (e.g. merchandise) is a plus.
Technical
- Advanced skills in design tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma. Canva (or similar) familiarity is a bonus. Bonus points for HTML5 experience.
- Experience designing responsive assets for the web, ensuring optimal usability and aesthetics across devices.
- Confident working with assets across multiple aspect ratios and platform specs without it slowing you down.
- Keeps abreast of new AI tools and actively tests and uses them where they add genuine value to design and content production.
- Basic understanding of video production, or ability to work effectively with a video editor. Some animation experience is a nice-to-have.
Mindset and approach
- Highly organised and prolific - able to manage a high volume of output with strong self-organisation and work autonomously.
- Comfortable managing a part-time, remote role and prioritising tasks effectively.
- Resourceful when things are unclear or stuck - finds a way past apparent blockers, while still staying aligned.
- Meticulous about design consistency and accuracy across all formats.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with the marketing and creative teams.
- Passionate about adventure travel and the outdoors, and able to bring that excitement to your designs.
