Job description

Symmetrio is hiring for a Procurement Manager to lead procurement strategy and operations for a growing organization within a highly regulated manufacturing environment. This individual will oversee the procurement team and be responsible for supplier strategy, material availability, cost management, contract negotiations, and supplier performance as the organization scales production.

The Procurement Manager will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, and Quality to strengthen the supply base, mitigate material risk, improve purchasing efficiency, and ensure materials are available to support production requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the procurement department, including buyer assignments, workload management, performance, hiring, training, and development.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that support current production requirements and long-term growth.
  • Evaluate supplier capacity and proactively qualify additional or alternate sources to reduce supply risk.
  • Consolidate supplier spend and implement purchasing strategies such as blanket orders, long-term agreements, kanban, and vendor-managed inventory.
  • Negotiate supplier pricing, lead times, payment terms, capacity commitments, and commercial and contractual terms.
  • Manage supplier contracts, renewals, compliance, pricing changes, and long-term agreements.
  • Identify, qualify, and onboard suppliers in partnership with Quality and Engineering.
  • Monitor supplier delivery, quality, cost, and commercial performance and drive corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develop supply chain risk mitigation plans addressing single-source suppliers, long-lead components, supplier financial health, and geographic concentration.
  • Own procurement cost performance and track negotiated, consolidation, and supplier requalification savings.
  • Establish and report procurement and supplier performance metrics, including on-time delivery, quality, savings, buyer productivity, and supplier qualification timelines.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier data within ERP systems and support material planning and shortage resolution.
  • Represent Procurement in cross-functional planning, program review, and executive meetings.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience directly managing a procurement department or buyer team.
  • Demonstrated experience scaling procurement operations and managing supplier capacity, consolidation, and purchasing efficiency.
  • Experience within a low-volume, high-mix, high-complexity manufacturing environment such as medical capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, aerospace, or defense.
  • Strong contract negotiation experience covering pricing, lead times, capacity commitments, and commercial terms.
  • Working knowledge of regulated quality systems, such as ISO 13485 or FDA 21 CFR Part 820.
  • Hands-on ERP and MRP experience, including purchase order management, lead-time maintenance, material planning, and shortage reporting.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to evaluate spend, supplier delivery, cost, and performance metrics.
  • Ability to translate production demand into material requirements, procurement workload, and supplier capacity needs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage changing and multiple priorities.

Preferred

  • Experience implementing blanket orders, vendor-managed inventory, or supplier kanban programs.
  • Experience developing procurement or supply chain reports and dashboards.
  • Formal problem-solving training or certification such as A3, 8D, or Six Sigma.
  • Professional certification such as CPSM, CPM, or APICS CSCP.
  • Experience participating in SIOP or S&OP processes.
  • Experience sourcing engineered-to-order assemblies, machined structures, and long-lead capital components.
  • Mandaring speaking is not necessary, but certainly a plus!
