Compensation: $165,000–$190,000

Position Overview

We are partnering with an established, multi-location organization seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Software Engineering & DevOps to lead its software development and infrastructure delivery teams.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who can effectively manage technical teams while continuing to influence engineering strategy, development standards, DevOps practices, and overall delivery performance.

The organization is investing in modernizing its engineering practices, including expanded use of AI-enabled development tools, improved CI/CD processes, and stronger standards around software quality and deployment reliability.

The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with enough technical depth to challenge assumptions, guide architectural and engineering decisions, and help teams operate more efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team across software engineering and DevOps

• Establish and continuously improve engineering standards related to code quality, testing, architecture, code reviews, and software delivery

• Oversee DevOps practices including CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, deployment processes, monitoring, and production reliability

• Help expand the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools throughout the software development lifecycle

• Identify opportunities to improve developer productivity, engineering efficiency, and delivery speed

• Lead sprint planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and delivery commitments across the team

• Improve estimation, planning, and overall predictability of software delivery

• Partner with other technology and business teams to ensure engineering priorities align with broader organizational initiatives

• Provide technical guidance while empowering senior engineers to own implementation and execution

• Support production systems by ensuring appropriate incident response, escalation, and post-incident processes are in place

• Collaborate with security stakeholders to maintain appropriate secure-development, vulnerability-management, and compliance practices

• Build a strong engineering culture centered on accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical excellence

During the first year, this leader will be expected to strengthen engineering operations across several areas, including:

• More reliable and efficient software release processes

• Increased adoption of AI-enabled development workflows with measurable improvements in engineering productivity

• Greater consistency in development standards and technical practices

• Improved predictability around project estimates, timelines, and delivery commitments

• Stronger collaboration between software engineering, DevOps, and other technology functions

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience

• 3+ years of direct people-management experience within software engineering

• Strong technical foundation within a modern Microsoft-oriented development environment

• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and modern DevOps practices

• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or comparable platforms

• Experience working with modern development planning, source-control, and delivery-management platforms

• Demonstrated success improving software-development processes, engineering quality, team productivity, or delivery performance

• Ability to communicate effectively with both highly technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders

Preferred Background

• Experience leading both software engineering and DevOps or platform-focused teams

• Background working within a complex, multi-location, operational, or industrial organization

• Experience supporting or integrating software solutions with enterprise business systems

• Experience introducing new development tools, engineering practices, or productivity initiatives across a technical organization

• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, site reliability, or production operations

This role is best suited for an engineering leader who enjoys developing people without becoming disconnected from the technology.

You should be comfortable discussing architecture and development practices with experienced engineers, evaluating how a team delivers software, and identifying opportunities to improve both technical quality and execution.
