Quick overview
Job description
We’re growing our UK engineering team, and we’re looking for a Senior Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, taking ownership and helping the people around them do their best work.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Design and build complex software solutions, writing clean, testable code.
-
Take ownership of features from initial design through to deployment and production support.
-
Contribute to architectural decisions and technical discussions.
-
Help improve performance through approaches such as monitoring, caching and load testing.
-
Build quality in from the start through unit, integration and performance testing.
-
Review code, mentor less experienced engineers and share what you know through documentation and team sessions.
-
Work with colleagues across engineering and product to deliver useful, well-tested outcomes.
-
Explore how AI development tools can support your work and where AI could add value to our products.
You’ll be a technical specialist in either backend or full-stack engineering, contributing to the design and delivery of software that supports our property platform. You’ll own features from early discussion through to production, helping make sure they’re reliable, secure, scalable and easy to maintain.
You’ll work closely with product, QA, UX and other engineers. You’ll also have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, share your knowledge and help shape how we build software as the UK business grows.
In practice, you’ll:
What You'll Bring
-
Advanced backend experience in Node.js, Python or Kotlin, or full-stack experience with modern frontend frameworks.
-
A good understanding of APIs, microservices, distributed systems and software architecture.
-
Experience with automated testing, performance testing and system monitoring.
-
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, plus CI/CD, containers and infrastructure as code.
-
Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling and performance optimisation.
-
A practical understanding of security best practice.
-
The ability to explain technical ideas clearly and work well with people in different roles.
-
An interest in supporting other engineers through mentoring, thoughtful code reviews and knowledge sharing.
You’ll have substantial experience building and supporting software in a collaborative engineering environment. You’ll be confident working through complex technical problems and making sound decisions about how to solve them.
We’re particularly interested in people with:
You don’t need experience with every technology we use. Our teams work across tools including Kubernetes, Docker, Splunk, Postman, Snowflake, Databricks and dbt, and the mix varies by team.
It would be useful if you also have
Experience in financial services or another regulated environment; familiarity with TDD, DDD or BDD; or experience building high-performance systems. Knowledge of machine learning or AI integration, or involvement in open-source communities, would also be welcome.
How We Work
Our engineering teams are trusted to make decisions and take responsibility for quality from development through to production. You’ll have room to build deep expertise in your chosen area while learning from colleagues across different technologies and disciplines.
We value curiosity, collaboration and practical problem-solving. You’ll be encouraged to share ideas, keep improving how we work and help others grow along the way.
If you’re an experienced engineer who likes getting into the detail, helping a team deliver well and having a real say in how things are built, we’d like to hear from you.
