Job description

About the Role
Our client, an established alternative investment manager, is seeking an experienced Director to oversee valuation activities across a diversified portfolio of credit and alternative investments.
This individual will be responsible for establishing and maintaining accurate valuations across private credit, leveraged loans, structured credit, and other less liquid investments. The role requires strong technical valuation expertise, hands-on financial modeling experience, and the ability to work closely with investment professionals, fund accounting, and external valuation specialists.
The successful candidate will play an important role in valuation governance, investment reporting, and the continued development of the firm's valuation processes and controls.

Responsibilities

    • Oversee valuation activities across a range of credit and alternative investment products, including private credit, syndicated loans, structured credit, CLOs, asset-backed securities, bonds, and private equity investments.
    • Develop, review, and maintain financial valuation models, ensuring the accuracy of assumptions, methodologies, and supporting market data.
    • Evaluate pricing inputs, underlying collateral, credit fundamentals, and other factors influencing investment valuations.
    • Coordinate with independent valuation firms and external pricing providers to review methodologies and validate results.
    • Prepare valuation committee materials, present findings, and lead discussions regarding valuation conclusions and key assumptions.
    • Partner with fund accounting teams to reconcile portfolio valuations, net asset values (NAV), and investment performance reporting.
    • Work closely with investment teams to address valuation questions and provide technical guidance on complex or illiquid positions.
    • Strengthen valuation policies, documentation, controls, and processes in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
    • Collaborate with risk, compliance, legal, and other internal stakeholders on valuation-related matters.
    • Identify opportunities to improve valuation workflows, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior professionals involved in valuation activities.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

    • 7+ years of relevant experience in investment valuations, credit valuation, portfolio valuation, or related functions within asset management or financial services.
    • Direct experience valuing credit instruments, including middle-market private credit, leveraged loans, CLOs, asset-backed securities, bonds, and other structured products.
    • Familiarity with private equity and specialty finance or FinTech-related investments.
    • Strong financial modeling capabilities, including developing valuation models, reviewing assumptions, and validating pricing inputs.
    • Experience working with third-party valuation firms and independent pricing providers.
    • Demonstrated experience preparing materials for and participating in or leading valuation committee meetings.
    • Strong understanding of fund accounting, NAV calculations, investment performance reporting, and valuation reconciliations.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with portfolio managers, investment professionals, and cross-functional teams.
    • Familiarity with valuation and investment accounting platforms such as IHS Markit, Advent Geneva, Allvue Everest, or Indus Valley Partners is preferred.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
    • Experience mentoring or developing junior team members.
    • Bachelor's degree required.
