Job Description

Job Title: Research Associate in Digital Health Interventions, Loughborough Application Closing Date: Sunday, 01 November 2026 School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences Full Time, Fixed term to 30 April 2028 Join us and be part of a vibrant community at Loughborough University. Heres more about the role and what were looking for: We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Research Associate to join an exciting programme of research focused on developing the next generation of personalised digital health interventions.

Based within the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour (CLiMB) in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, you will be part of a multidisciplinary research community and contribute to an interdisciplinary programme of research with the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering.

You will contribute to research exploring Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) and micro-randomised trials (MRTs), using smartphone and wearable data alongside machine learning, particularly reinforcement learning, to develop interventions that adapt to individuals changing behaviours, needs and contexts. Working within this multidisciplinary research environment, you will contribute across intervention development, study design and delivery, data analysis and machine learning modelling, and the dissemination of findings through high-quality publications and conferences.

About the Department The School of Sport Exercise and Health Sciences (SSEHS) is a multi-disciplinary school committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community. It upholds the highest standards of excellence in research, innovation, and pedagogy across the full spectrum of disciplines within sport, exercise, health and wellbeing. About You You will have a PhD (or be nearing completion), or equivalent research experience, in digital health, health technology, computer science, data science, behavioural science, health sciences or a related discipline.

You will have experience of programming and quantitative data analysis, with experience of developing or applying machine learning models and using languages such as Python or R. You will be a collaborative, organised and independent researcher, with excellent communication skills and a demonstrable ability to contribute to high-quality research outputs and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
