The Role
An exciting opportunity for a Catastrophe Risk Analyst to join a leading Exposure Management team at one of Lloyd’s largest syndicates. The successful candidate will be delivering cutting edge analytics to stakeholders across the business for the D&F Property class, which has seen significant growth over the last 12 months. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to have a material impact at a top Lloyds’ syndicate and global (re)insurer.
As an analyst, you will have a real ability to meaningfully influence the risk selection process. The successful candidate will look to work collaboratively with various internal stakeholders to ensure timely modelling analytics to support risk pricing and wider Catastrophe Management goals.
Skill mix: Account Modeling + Data Cleansing
CAT Modelers/ Sr. CAT Modelers:
Responsibilities:
- Confident and timely delivery of analytics and the ability to explain how these analytics can help drive risk selection.
- Use RMS and various other tools to deliver market leading analysis both on individual account and portfolio basis.
- Work closely with the Natural Catastrophe Management team, across different regions, to ensure close communication across the team, consistent application of view of risk and contribute to cross-region analytics.
- Create a narrative based on the modelling data and other sources to effectively provide a valuable summary of a certain risk and give advice to Underwriters on the strengths and weaknesses of both the data and the model’s ability to provide meaningful results. This includes communicating the concept of uncertainty.
- Communicate risk metrics to key stakeholders.
- Coordinate with the Analytics and Reporting team to ensure timely delivery of data required for internal and external reporting.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in a Cat Modelling role – RMS experience is highly desirable and D&F Property class experience is advantageous.
- Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous.
- Excellent business communication skills – ability to influence, negotiate, and listen.
- Ability to manipulate large data sets with strong Excel and SQL skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Power BI for analytics is desirable.
- Intermediate/Advanced Experience with MS SQL is a strong advantage. Ability to build/design and manipulate queries to improve process.
- Familiarity with another programming language such as VBA, .NET, R, Python is an advantage.
Asst. Manager - CAT Modeling
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage catastrophe modeling projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of client and business requirements.
- Review, validate, and approve exposure data, data scrubbing activities, quality checks, and model-ready datasets.
- Manage and mentor a team of catastrophe modeling analysts, providing technical guidance, training, and performance coaching.
- Oversee workload planning, resource allocation, and project prioritization to meet business objectives and service-level expectations.
- Drive data quality initiatives by identifying process gaps, implementing controls, and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Perform complex account, portfolio, and reinsurance analysis using catastrophe modeling platforms and internal tools.
- Collaborate with onshore stakeholders, underwriters, brokers, actuaries, and client teams to resolve data and modeling-related queries.
- Monitor project risks, track deliverables, and proactively communicate status, issues, and mitigation plans to management.
- Develop and enhance standard operating procedures, best practices, and process improvement initiatives.
- Review catastrophe model outputs, perform reasonability checks, and provide analytical insights to support business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, audit requirements, and data governance standards.
- Support transition activities, process documentation, knowledge management, and capability-building initiatives within the team.
Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in Catastrophe Modeling, exposure management, and insurance analytics.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience with catastrophe modeling platforms such as RMS, AIR/Verisk, or equivalent industry-standard tools.
- Proven expertise in exposure data review, data cleansing, financial validation, geo-coding, and portfolio quality assurance.
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams, managing performance, and developing junior analysts.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables, stakeholders, and competing priorities.
- Excellent understanding of insurance and reinsurance concepts, policy structures, CAT modeling methodologies, and financial terms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, Pivot Tables, Power Query, and data analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience interacting with global stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Experience driving process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational excellence programs.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high levels of accuracy and quality.
- Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, and client-facing skills.
