Embedded Linux Software Developer with Security Clearance

Responsibilities Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Embedded Linux Software Developer to join our team at the Naval Research Lab (NRL). The ideal candidate will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing embedded systems, with a focus on secure Linux-based platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement software solutions that enable innovative and efficient embedded devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems for various applications.
• Design, implement, and debug software components using Linux-based technologies.
• Customize and build Linux distributions using the Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, or similar frameworks.
• Integrate open-source and proprietary software into embedded systems.
• Provide guidance on embedded Linux best practices, including configuration, kernel optimization, and security.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software components.
• Perform system analysis, profiling, and debugging to ensure performance and stability.
• Provide documentation and technical support throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years' experience, BS 5-7 Years, MS 3-5, PhD 0-2
• Proven experience in developing embedded Linux solutions.
• Proficiency with the Yocto Project or similar build systems such as OpenEmbedded or willingness to learn
• Experience in C/C++ programming for Linux environments.
• Strong understanding of Linux kernel internals, device drivers, and board bring-up processes.
• Hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Ability to debug and troubleshoot software and hardware integration issues.
• Solid understanding of operating system concepts, memory management, and inter-process communication (IPC).
• Minimum DOD SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS

Preferred:

• Familiarity with container technologies (Docker or Podman)
• Familiarity with Wind River Linux or other commercial embedded distributions.
• Experience with real-time or low-latency Linux system configurations.
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation.
• Understanding of network protocols and embedded system security concepts

Equal Pay Act This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
