Job Description
Principal AI Engineering Consultant Agentic AI
Employment: Full-Time
Preferred Locations: California, New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas
Experience: 16 17+ years
Work type: Remote, with travel to client locations (30%) for Discovery and such sessions.
H1 transfers are accepted.
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on AI Engineering Consultant who combines deep software engineering expertise with practical experience building and delivering Agentic AI solutions and AI-driven development workflows.
This is an Individual Contributor (IC) role. You will remain technically hands-on while working directly with clients to understand business problems, design agentic solutions, build working implementations, and conduct technical consultations and workshops.
A strong engineering foundation in Java, .NET, or enterprise application development and recent hands-on experience applying Generative AI and Agentic AI to real-world software engineering is expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and demonstrate Agentic AI solutions for enterprise engineering and business use cases.
- Run hands-on agentic coding workflows using Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, or equivalent AI coding/CLI tools.
- Build software where AI agents generate significant portions of the code while you guide architecture, provide context, review outputs, debug issues, and take the solution through delivery.
- Design effective agent workflows, context management, tool integrations, orchestration, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
- Work with CLAUDE.md, shared context frameworks, persistent project instructions, and multi-session/multi-agent development setups.
- Systematically troubleshoot and debug non-deterministic agent behavior and outputs.
- Apply LLMs, Agentic AI and AI-assisted engineering across the software development lifecycle.
- Conduct client discovery sessions, technical consultations, solutioning discussions, demonstrations, and workshops.
- Translate business problems into practical AI/agent architectures and working implementations.
- Explain complex AI solutions and engineering approaches clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Evaluate emerging AI engineering tools and patterns and apply them to enterprise software development.
Required Experience
- 16 17+ years of overall software engineering experience, with strong hands-on technical depth.
- Strong engineering background in Java, .NET, or modern enterprise application development.
- Recent hands-on experience with Generative AI, LLMs, Agentic AI, or AI-assisted software engineering.
- Practical experience using Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, or comparable agentic coding tools.
- Demonstrated experience building real solutions using AI agents - not just AI strategy, presentations, or basic Copilot usage.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, cloud-native applications, development workflows, testing, debugging, and production engineering.
- Ability to independently take a business problem and design, prototype, demonstrate, and explain an Agentic AI solution.
- Strong consulting and client-facing communication skills with experience conducting technical workshops and solution discussions.
