IT Product Manager

Our client is a well-established financial services organization experiencing rapid growth. We’re hiring a hands-on Product Manager to link its business departments with an established internal development team.

This is a strategic role rather than a coordination role: you will partner with assigned departments to uncover opportunities, shape them into well-defined initiatives, write the specifications, dig into the data, and guide the work through a verified, monitored release.

This role requires 2 days onsite at the downtown Chicago, IL office.

Position Summary:

• Learn each assigned department's goals, processes, and data, and act as a sounding board by challenging proposals and raising concerns before decisions are finalized.
• Proactively identify opportunities, such as manual work to automate, redundant systems to retire, or untracked metrics, and frame them with a clear problem, outcome, and success measure.
• Translate business needs into specifications and tickets any engineer can pick up; break large projects into independently deliverable pieces and keep backlogs and roadmaps current.
• Coordinate the departments a project depends on, including design and launch of regulated changes, and own vendor and third-party integrations from evaluation through launch.
• Test in development and staging, plan releases, confirm results, and build the dashboards, automated checks, and alerts that keep releases healthy.
• Define and track key metrics, use data to tell a clear story, and keep leadership informed on progress, risks, and quarterly planning.
• Support junior teammates with analysis and query work, and contribute to team standards, templates, and internal tools.

Professional Experience:

• Strong strategic thinking and high-level judgment, with an engineering-style ability to break complex, ambiguous problems into their component parts.
• Strong reasoning skills and comfort working with abstract concepts.
• Proficiency in Excel and the ability to use data to build a narrative and inform decisions.
• Experience working closely with software development teams, including technical design and writing specifications engineers can build from.
• Clear communication with both business leaders and engineers, and the ability to lead cross-functional work without formal authority.
• A track record of owning work through completion in fast-moving environments, along with natural curiosity and a strong work ethic.
