The Role

• Interpret engineering drawings, mark materials, and prepare plate using cutting and grinding methods.
• Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components.
• Fabricate various ship items, including seats, ladders, panels, and watertight doors.
• Form materials using machine tools such as rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
• Work as part of a team to produce high-quality steelwork for essential defence projects.

What You'll Need

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate or Trade Papers, and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds).
• Up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Understanding of core manufacturing processes and the ability to complete tack welding to safety and quality standards.
• Confident and responsible operation of oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements.
• Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
