Job Description

Job Title: Distribution Design Engineering II- T2

Location: Houston, TX

Duration: 6 + Months contract to fulltime hire

Our client is seeking Distribution Engineers for electric utility design engineering. Position Summary:
Mid-level engineering role focused on independently managing electric distribution system designs (OH/UG). Will handle more complex tasks and support wildfire mitigation-related infrastructure hardening projects, and system upgrades while working closely with engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
Interpret utility-provided scope documents and translate them into executable design packages.
Develop and lead preparation of detailed design and construction work packages.
Conduct engineering calculations, including pole loading, guying, voltage drop, and conductor sag/tension.
Coordinate and resolve field conflicts such as underground congestion, clearance issues, and joint use.
Perform engineering support during construction and post-construction inspections.
Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation using engineering principles.
Collaborate on permit packages, ROW applications, and easement preparation for complex urban designs.
Perform design self-checks prior to submitting packages to the formal QA/QC team.
Mentor junior engineers or technicians where applicable.

Tools & Software:
AutoCAD, AUD
GIS (ESRI)
O-Calc, Pole Foreman or equivalent pole loading tool
Google Earth
Microsoft Office Suite
Proprietary field data collection & design platform (training provided)

Field Work Expectations:
Field visits for data collection (pole height, GPS, guying, clearances)
Field work is observational only, with no contact with energized components.
Rental vehicles and PPE/safety equipment will be provided.

Qualifications:
Required:
o Bachelor s degree in engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or related) from an ABET-accredited institution
o Minimum 2 years of electric utility distribution design experience (utility or consulting)
o Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and at least one pole loading tool
Preferred:
o Experience with NESC and/or GO95 standards.
o Familiarity with permitting requirements
o Familiarity with work management or estimating tools
o Experience with protective device coordination or fault current analysis
