We are seeking a SCADA Support Engineer with 5+ years of experience, ideally in the Midstream Oil and Gas sector, to join our client''s SCADA Support team. This position is the primary support resource for their Ignition SCADA platform, maintaining gateways, tags, alarms, security, and screens. You will be diagnosing and resolving ACM communication issues such as polling failures and comm-loss. You will verify that Management of Change (MOC) documentation is in place before performing work on regulated items and execute PHMSA-driven control room management tasks as required. You will operate independently on high-impact and recurring issues, assist other support staff, and collaborate closely with field operations and control room personnel to keep data flowing reliably. Deep, hands-on expertise in Ignition administration, ACM/OPC communications troubleshooting, scripting, and database management is required, along with excellent communication, documentation, and judgment under time pressure.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience supporting SCADA systems, including hands-on administration of both the Ignition platform and an OPC-based polling engine such as AutoSol ACM.
- Oil and gas industry experience required, with a focus on Midstream sector field operations strongly preferred.
- Ignition: strong, hands-on experience administering Ignition in a production SCADA environment.
- AutoSol ACM (OPC server): direct, hands-on experience with AutoSol ACM or a comparable OPC server (e.g., Kepware, Matrikon) in a production environment.
- Proven ability to independently diagnose, resolve, and lead root-cause investigations on ACM communication issues in a production SCADA environment.
- Strong working knowledge of SCADA architecture, PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred), and industrial control systems.
- Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python (Ignition''s native Jython-based scripting) and PowerShell (Windows service management and automation for ACM), applied to Ignition and ACM support and automation tasks.
- Solid database management experience, including SQL and data acquisition/historian systems.
- Sound judgment managing multiple concurrent, time-sensitive support items, with the ability to work well with other support staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate confidently with field operations personnel and corporate users under time pressure.
- Ability to author, implement, and enforce enterprise SCADA standards and guidelines.
- Self-motivated and able to operate independently with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary support resource and subject-matter expert for day-to-day Ignition SCADA and AutoSol ACM issues raised by field operations and control room personnel.
- Ignition: support and maintain Ignition gateways, tags, security, alarms, and screens in accordance with standards, reviewing changes for adherence to enterprise guidelines.
- AutoSol ACM (OPC server): own and maintain ACM configurations, OPC connections, and polling schedules, and monitor device communication health across the SCADA footprint.
- Independently diagnose and resolve communication issues, including polling failures and comm-loss alarms, between field RTPLCs and the ACM layer feeding Ignition, driving root-cause resolution on recurring issues.
- Verify that Management of Change (MOC) documentation is in place before performing work on regulated Ignition tags, alarms, and displays, as well as ACM communication configurations, and execute PHMSA control room management tasks (49 CFR §192.631) as required by the MOC.
- Conduct performance analysis and optimization of ACM communications and polling, and identify systemic reliability improvements.
- Develop and implement automation, reporting, and data visualization solutions within Ignition to support operational efficiency.
- Perform system upgrades, patches, and improvements to ensure system stability and security.
- Provide technical support and training to end users and other support staff on Ignition and ACM-related issues.
- Create and maintain documentation for SCADA systems and support procedures, including troubleshooting guides, configuration manuals, and known-issue logs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders such as engineering and operations to integrate SCADA solutions with hardware and control systems, and provide hands-on execution support to project teams when needed.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours resolution of critical visibility, communication, and alarm issues.
Education
- Bachelor''s degree preferred with an emphasis in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. In lieu of degree, equivalent hands-on experience in oil and gas operations, with a strong background in enterprise SCADA and ACM communications support, will be considered.
