Job Description

Join Nokia’s Optical Networks division and contribute to the development and validation of advanced high-speed converter technology used in next-generation optical transmission systems.
We are looking for a High-Speed ADC/DAC Test Engineer with strong hands-on laboratory experience. This is a practical, lab-focused engineering position for someone who is comfortable working directly with high-frequency test and measurement equipment and has experience characterizing Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) and Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs).
The successful candidate will spend a significant part of their time working in the lab, setting up and executing measurements, analyzing results, troubleshooting issues, and improving test methodologies for high-speed converter technologies.
As a High-Speed ADC/DAC Test Engineer, you will:
  • Perform hands-on laboratory testing and characterization of high-speed ADCs and DACs.
  • Set up, operate, and optimize high-frequency/RF test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators and related laboratory equipment.
  • Execute measurements on ADCs and DACs, both as standalone devices and when integrated into DSP/ASIC solutions.
  • Develop, improve and maintain automated test setups and measurement scripts, primarily using Python.
  • Analyze measurement results and identify performance limitations or unexpected behavior.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, test setup and measurement issues in the lab.
  • Work closely with ADC/DAC designers, ASIC/DSP teams and other hardware development teams to explain test results and support debugging.
  • Improve test methodologies to increase measurement accuracy, repeatability and efficiency.
  • Support the transition of test methodologies from development into manufacturing and volume testing.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across international Nokia locations.
  • We are looking for candidates with:
    • Master’s degree or PhD in Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • Strong hands-on laboratory experience. Candidates should have spent significant time working directly with electronic/RF test setups and equipment.
    • Practical experience testing and characterizing Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) and/or Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs).
    • Experience with high-speed/high-frequency measurement equipment, such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators and related RF test equipment.
    • Good understanding of ADC/DAC performance and measurement methodologies.
    • Experience building, configuring and troubleshooting complex laboratory test setups.
    • Python programming experience for test automation and laboratory equipment control.
    • Basic understanding of digital signal processing and signal analysis.
    • Basic understanding of firmware/software interfaces used to control and test hardware.
    • Fluent written and spoken English. German language skills are an advantage/expected depending on the requirements of the team.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with international engineering teams.
    Nice to have
    • Experience with very high-frequency/RF measurements, particularly in mmWave or >100 GHz environments.
    • Experience with ADC/DACs integrated into DSPs or ASICs.
    • MATLAB experience.
    • Knowledge of coherent optical transmission systems.
    • Experience with device/package characterization and de-embedding.
    • Linux experience.
    • Previous experience working in multidisciplinary hardware development teams.
