Business Analyst – Data & Analytics

Industry: Banking / Financial Services

Contract: Inside IR35 £500-£600 per day

Location: Birmingham - Hybrid working with up to 3 days a week in the office. Could also be Sheffield if not local to Birmingham.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Business Analyst – Data & Analytics to join a leading global bank, supporting a major data, reporting and analytics function within its Technology and Operations division.

The role will involve working across multiple business areas with opportunities to support initiatives covering cyber analytics, location analytics, controls and other operational functions.

You'll work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers and analytics teams to understand requirements, assess available data and help design solutions that deliver meaningful insights and reporting.

This is a role suited to someone with strong business analysis experience, a good understanding of data and the ability to work confidently across a complex banking environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather, analyse and document business requirements across data, reporting and analytics initiatives.

  • Work with stakeholders to understand their reporting and data requirements, identifying suitable solutions.

  • Assess existing datasets, understand data relationships and identify gaps in available information.

  • Support the design of data and reporting solutions, working closely with data engineers, architects and dashboard developers.

  • Translate business requirements into clear functional and data requirements for technical delivery teams.

  • Support initiatives across Operational Resilience, cyber analytics, location analytics and wider COO functions.

  • Coordinate requirements and delivery activities across multiple teams, managing dependencies and changing priorities.

  • Facilitate workshops and discussions with business and technical stakeholders.

What We're Looking For
  • Strong Business Analysis experience within a Tier 1 investment bank, ideally within a complex technology or operations environment.

  • Good understanding of conceptual and logical data models, data structures and relationships between datasets.

  • Familiarity with SQL, including the ability to understand or run basic queries. Experience with BigQuery would be advantageous.

  • Understanding of relational databases, tables, foreign keys and how different datasets connect.

  • Ability to work closely with data engineers and reporting teams, translating business needs into technical requirements.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working across complex, matrix-managed environments.

  • Highly organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of requirements and coordinating across multiple teams.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing business requirements.

Please note: This is not a hands-on data engineering or development role. We're looking for a Business Analyst with strong data knowledge who can understand technical concepts, challenge requirements and work effectively with engineering and analytics teams.

If you're an experienced Business Analyst with a strong background in banking and data-driven change, we'd be keen to hear from you.
